I think the rear bushings on the Miata are binding due to being slightly oversized. Before I tear the car apart to trim or sand them down, I was wondering if there is a local source for polyurethane grease. I think I want to stick (ha ha) with the tacky lube that comes with the Energy Suspension kits, but other suggestions are welcome.

IIRC, that is just standard lithium grease, available at the usual auto parts places, right?

No, it basically has the consistency of melted gum. I have a small container you can have. I'll be at the club meeting next week.

You can also buy the exact same stuff as the Energy Suspension stuff in the plumbing aisle at Lowes/HD. It's a very small container, maybe about 2-3 of the Energy Suspension tubes, but it's around $3.50. Ryan Holton told me about it and I bought 2 of them the last time I needed it. I'll post up the brand tomorrow so others can find it locally too. - AB

I have an 8oz container of it and a 1oz container of Formula 5. I wouldn't use lithium grease, It'll wash out very fast. Energy suspensions claim that Formula 5 can withstand a 2000psi pressure washer and given its consistency and the fact that it will NEVER wash off of clothes, I believe it.

A great way to go through a box of gloves is to do polyurethane bushings.

Lowe's Racing Supply FTW!!!

Danco Silicone Grease $3.97

Same exact stuff Energy Suspension sends you with the bushings.

Awesome. With as much time as I spend in Lowes, there are still treasures waiting to be discovered

It's located in the plumbing aisle where you find replacement kitchen sink/toilet parts. It'll be hung off a pegboard type post and be surprisingly small, but will make you happy when you find it. - AB

We call it "Lowes Racing Supply". I was in there yesterday buying electrical conduit caps to build a catch can for an 8.8" Ford rear differential.

Removed a rear upper control arm and I had to use a clamp to press the sleeve out of the bushings. Looks like I will be adding zerks to the control arms to avoid disassembling and re-greasing in addition to sanding the flanges on the bushings. Since the gooey polyurethane grease does not come in a grease gun cartridge, what should I use? Marine grease? I get the feeling that regardless of what I use, I will have to re-grease at least once a year.

Pay close attention to the clearances on the rear upper control arms. They were tight enough that I choose to not put zerks on them.

If this Lowes stuff is as good as ES Formula 5, you might never have to regrease them ever. It's like pine tar.
