The RX-8 has a type of fuel line I've never dealt with before. There are inner and outer clips that slide over and pressure lock. I was putting them back together and they won't separate right now, but they just don't look correct, either.

Does anybody have any experience with this type of fuel line connection?

The car is not quite yet ready to have the battery put in, so I can't test them under load, but also really NOT test them under load if they are wrong.

The fitting is this type:

And the red "collar" is really lose.

I've heard that these are one use units- if you put them together and take them apart you really need a new fuel line. Does anybody know if this is the case?

Is that a Ford style fuel line? 2001-2005 Miatas used these terrible things.

They look similar, but not exactly the same.

One thing I have learned about most modern fuel lines is they called "Quick-connect". Notice, I didn't say "Quick-disconnect". 100% designed for a quicker connection at the factory, no doubt.

The ones for the fuel filter on my '98 Z-24 are a PITA and need the SST's. By contrast, my '06 Mustang has two buttons that you press between your thumb and index finger and are easy peasy.
