2/4 of the shocks on my E36 M3 are now blown, and I'm trying to decide wether to buy new or get these re-valved. They're a set of Koni yellow SA shocks, that seem to go for around $700. Cursory google'ing show re-valving is around $155/shock which would make more sense to just buy a new (or used) set.

Is that right? What am I missing here? This is my daily driver that I rarely auto-x, and even on the softest setting they were pretty harsh.

If you bought them new then there is a lifetime warranty. But, for a daily driver, I'd probably just get something cheaper.

They were already on the car when I bought it, and so, no receipt. :-(

The re-valve process can take a few weeks or worse from what I have heard so unless you plan to park the car you will need replacement shocks anyway.

When given the opportunity to replace KONIs with good shocks, take it!

If you're in any kind of hurry, I'd just buy something new. KONI shop time is notoriously long. The old ones are sellable to someone wanting something that they're going to get custom valved anyway.

Yeah, if you want a shock that rides even more harsh than a Koni SA on the softest setting.

That isn't my experience. Plus who are you to make a statement about a BMW like that anyway...

I second the Bilstein HD's. I switched from Koni yellows to Bilstein HDs two years ago and have been very happy with them.

I was pretty impressed with Rodney's Mazda 3 on the Bilsteins at NCCAR. I'd probably buy another set of OTS Konis in the future but I'd definitely save the receipt and not mention the 'r' word. My Civic Koni's are collecting dust in my shed and due to one leaky frony insert, I have no idea what to do with them. :(
