And the old NASCAR trick of filling the tubes of the rollcage with fuel could add a couple of extra gallons. No safety issues there!

You're very welcome. In addition to discouraging the destruction of a kind of car that I like, I think you would be better off with a V6 SN95 like Mark Barnes runs. Stiffer chassis, 4-wheel disk brakes, better weight balance and obviously better fuel economy.

That said, there are two books - Mustang Performance Handbook 1 & 2 (author is William R. Mathis) that you should track down and read if you want to track a Fox body Mustang on the cheap.

Keep in mind that '93+ 5.0s have cast pistons, while the earlier ones have forged. Front suspension geometry is slightly better with the 90+ models, but 94+ are better yet. In stock trim the speed-density 87-88s are a little more powerful than 89-93s w/MAF, but MAF is necessary to support aftermarket mods. Stock "HO" heads in the 87-93s (and 94-95s) don't breathe well - it's all over at 5000 rpm - so the benefit of intake and exhaust changes is reduced. '86 models had the first EFI setup but also had weird "High Swirl" heads and reduced power. '85s had the last 4 BBL carb setup, same HO heads as 87-93, were the first with roller lifters and the quad-shock rear suspension that quelled the insane axle hop of the earlier models.

FWIW, whenever I calculated my fuel usage at HPDE events with my '90, it always came out around 8 MPG.

Wouldn't you use explorer heads and manifold?

These cars handle like complete shit. Just juice the motor and make each race 5000 drag races between the corners. Seems to be working for the BMW crowd.

If you want them to handle better get bushings to raise the front roll center, and go to truck arms and panhard rod to lower the roll center in the rear. The car can competently corner at that point. The stock 4 link binds up during articulation and makes it loose.

That hasn't changed and is almost a universal number for track MPG. My 4.6L '06 GT get's 8 MPG on track, and my 2.4L Z-24 get the same.

My experience was with SP autocross rules, which are a lot more restrictive than Chump car. Yes, Explorer heads would make intake and exhaust changes worthwhile.

Regarding handling - they enforce discipline in your driving technique, that's all. Sometimes you get lucky, and the car actually does what you want, despite everything else: http://photos.kestrelracing.com/p/kone_ ... 22#photo_s

You forgot to mention sorry brakes.

Six Cylinder SN-95 car for sale on rrax: FYI Ron Earp in Raleigh is IT racing a similar car and knows a LOT.

LeMons/Chump Mustang Philly $3500 OBO
We basically want out of the car what we put into it. The car was made for big boys. It has a brand new Corbeau FX1 wide seat. I'm a 44" waist and I fit fine. The cage was bent to allow easy access in and out.
As the car sits, it has a cracked transmission tailshaft housing. We believe that the crack was caused by a bad transmission mount.
The original engine was replaced by a low mileage (48,000) splitport 3.8.
We added an aftermarket FPR w/return to compensate for the returnless engine
It's wired for lights and has strings of LEDs for nighttime identification.
Comes with 2 sets of wheels and tires - Z2s. (4 hours and 16 hour on the tires)
Corbeau FX1 Wide seat
Caged w/dash bar and two passenger side bars
Cowl hood (which can be sold and money reallocated)
Wired and has a mount for cool suit cooler
Extra transmission (4th gear grind)
Extra diff
New radiator
New hoses
New serpentine belt
New clutch
Ghetto fabbed CAI
Plus some more stuff that I know I'm forgetting.
So all you need to do is swap a transmission and throw a harness in there and you are ready to race.
This is basically the Grim Reaper Racing car which came in second at Summit Point this year.
Of course, it's $500 for the car. $3000 for the safety gear and spares. $3500 (OBO) together - will not separate.
We're selling it because we already have an E30 that is running well and are looking to allocate garage space and money for another IOE car.
The best way to contact me is via email rob_leone@verizon.net

Yeah, well tell him we're still waiting for an apology from his team who put Chris Brown in the wall at VIR.

I was more thinking back to him selling us a few tires for dirt cheap when we won in '09.

I don't think our pit was too hard to find at the race. Besides, until we posted video they swore they didn't do it.

Sn95 with a v8 would be a good choice. Lots of parts available to make it faster. Lots of cars out there to pick from. Your gearing choice could impact top speed and fuel mileage. The v6 will run over2 hours on 15 gallons but not sure about the v8.

I am sure a mustang can do well in chump.
