So, its been happening for a little bit. The truck (99 Silverado) has a clunk that I hear hitting bumps or when I am turning, but not all the time. I had one person tell me its one of the bolts holding the body to the frame, but this just dose not feel like the right answer. and my gut is saying a partially blown shock. Ride quality does not feel bad and the side in question only sits a half inch lower. (which I have read is common for Chevy trucks to sit lower on driver side). When I pull the wheel, I am not able to find the clunk by shaking things by hand. Any other advice on how to find it before I just start replacing suspension parts based off a gut feeling?


Also as another side question, the piston on my big floor jack blew out. Are these rebuild-able? Most likely not, but I figured I would ask before tossing it.

Can't answer about the jack, but may be able to answer the "clunk". My neighbor has a similar truck, tahoe version. He complained of a minor clunk. We took off the front wheels and turned the wheels lock to lock. We found worn control arm bushings on the top A arm. We tightened them down for a short term fix and then he had them replaced.

You can also grab the wheel while it's off the ground. Hands a 6 and 12 and try to lift up and down. If loose, it's probably a ball joint. Hands at 9 and 3. If you have play it's probably a tie rod end.

Rodney, Thanks, I will check those two when I get a new Jack. It died on me as I was lifting the truck the other day. I remember checking that last time I looked at this when the clunking was not as frequent. maybe if that's my issue it will make noise this time.
