I have both axles in and started the car and checked the shifting. No revving of the engine since the transfer case is still dry, but everything works. At least that's a step in the right direction.

I am not sure what you mean by transfer case, but if you mean transmission, don't run it while it is dry even just to test it. Remember even when in neutral, with the clutch out (engaged) you are spinning the input shaft of the transmission and the gears at engine speed.

Money can't buy happiness, but somehow it's more comfortable to cry in a Porsche than a Kia.

Transfer case w/ a misstatement. As soon as I can get the rear of the car in the air, I'll fill the tranny w/ some new redline. Happy to see this going back together now.

It's alive!!!

Finally completed!! Took it for a test drive and all's well except for the steering wheel, it's a little off so I imagine we're in serious need of an alignment. Shifts fine; no clunks, no bangs, no grinds, no drama. Engagement on the clutch is good and no slipping. This took too long, but an education is always good.

Now to clean up all the tools in the garage....

Probably too late to say it now, but "It's Miller Time!" (or other superior beers for the aficionados amongst us)
Congrats for not really busting something in a mad rage....you were tested on this one.

Why it was almost a "Presidential" effort....speaking of railroading.

To quote a road racer in Raleigh who is determined to learn how to set up a ring & pinion himself despite all the advice from other grass roots racers to have an expert do it:

"Yep, I could write a check and have the R&P setup but that isn't how I generally roll. Part of the fun of the racing hobby is learning to do new things. I already know how to write a check so that only leaves one option for the R&P setup."

One of the best quotes I've seen in a long time and summarizes the attitudes of a lot of us when "cost" isn't the complete reason we do it ourselves.
