Howdy folks,
I really, really need new tires for my 240SX. It won't be autocrossed again until I find work.

Tire size is 205/60R-15. Do Miatas use a similar size? The current tires are AVS ES100s, so that's what I'm used to. I don't think they're available any more :( . I was hoping to find something with treadwear around 300, but no luck today.

All I'm finding are all-season tires and other such junk with treadwear ratings of 400+. I think anything over about 340 is silly. It will rot before I wear the tread down.

Discount Tire Direct is showing me a Falken Ziex ZE-512, with a treadwear rating of 440. Anyone have experience with that tire?

At 205/55R15, the Tire Rack shows me a Dunlop Direzza DZ101. Treadwear is in the right ballpark, but the smaller diameter will throw my speedometer off (more). Does anyone in the club have experience with this tire? I could be swayed by a glowing recommendation.

At 205/65R15, the Tire Rack shows me some Bridgestone "Ecopia" tire with treadwear 400.

I've bought tires from Discount Tire Direct before, but I'm frustrated with their (lack of) system for sorting the tires.

I can't remember where else I've bought tires. Maybe that means I got a lot of miles out of this last set.

Went through 4 of these on my wife's DD (Ford Fusion) pretty quick. I would not recommend them for longevity.

x2. They were really horrible when I used them on the '00 Celica years back.

The ZE-912s aren't any better, FWIW.

I'm running a set of Continental ExtremeContact DWS's. Don't know if they have them in your size, but I'm very happy w/ these. Good road feel and turn in, good wet weather and very low noise.

+1 on the DWS, (have them on the WRX) but I didn't see them available in that size. FWIW, if it's just a DD, there's no issue with any of the 400+TW all seasons listed on TR.com...Pick one that fits the budget and move on. I have not regretted buying the Michelin Primacy or the Kumho Solus for use on the old Odyssey we had, and I suspect they work fine on lighter cars as well.

The S2000 came with General Altimax HPs and they were fine too. At the Laurinburg TnT in 2012 (cold, standing water and rain) they didn't spin or misbehave at all, so I kept them as emergency backup wet tires until the new tire reviews are completed.

I have gone through 2 sets of these on my Ford Focus. I have been reasonably happy with them but I don't push to the limits on the street anymore.

I'd recommend anything from BFG, except the Rivals of course. My BFG 205/50/15 G-Forces refuse to die even with a '07 ex-factory date.

The Conti DWS are great indeed but they don't make them in a 15" diameter unfortunately.

OK, I've eliminated the Falken Ziex from consideration.

I can't find BF Goodrich or Continental tires in 205/55R-15, 205/60R-15, or 205/65R-15. :(

Does anyone here use Bridgestone tires?
In 205/60R-15 I can find a Bridgestone "G 019 Grid" High Performance All-Season tire with a Treadwear rating of 460.

In 205/65R-15 I can find a Bridgestone "RE960AS" Ultra High Performance All-Season tire, with Treadwear 400, AA, A.

In 205/55R-15 I can find a Kumho "Ecsta 4X" Ultra High Performance All-Season, Treadwear 420. Anyone have any experience with the Ecsta 4X?

How about the Yokohama "S.Drive"? Or Kumho "Ecsta ASX" All-Season?

Have an almost dead set of S.Drives on the M3, and had ASX's on the old Subaru.

The S-Drives actually make a good daily tire - mine have some bad wear patterns and scalloping causing high road noise, but I attribute that to running too long in track alignment and with bad tie rods. They stick well for a street tire (of the guys on our Chump team had a DE student with these on his car and said they were impressive on track), and have never given me an issue in the rain.

For an all-weather tire on a Subaru, I was happy with the ASX's. Maybe a bit of road noise as they wore down, but couldn't really tell in that car. I would buy again for a car that I wanted to have confidence in every day of the year (right now I just run my truck which has M+S tires for those questionable winter days).

I clicked on the link and it showed me a list of 43 tires. Which ones were you trying to point out?

Just showing all of the options in that size. It's really unfortunate that Continental doesn't make the DWS in 15". :(

What's up 15" wheel buddy with no awesome and reasonably priced all-season tire options.

Yeah...I'd like to put 17s on it one day, but that's yet another thing that'll have to wait until I have a job. :(

(Any of y'all know someone that's looking for a mechanical engineer? After ~8 years in the AF I have entry-level skills in actual engineering, but I have 8 years of proof that I can show up to work reliably and be responsible with money and confidential information. I have 2 years of experience in test engineering, including practice at technical writing and Design Of Experiments.)

Do we have an out-of-work-and-need-tire-money thread?

The Tire Rack is showing a Kumho Solus I hadn't seen yesterday.

Ratings are 440, AA, and A. It's a "Grand Touring All-Season" tire. Anyone use this?
