My history with two D16Y7 engines...
Tina's ran without problem's until she was hit and it was totaled. Major maintenance... Distributor, A/C compressor, Cat Converter (my fault), CV/Axles, Muffler (rusted). Car had 201K. Mine seems to be going fine. Major maintenance... A/C clutch, Muffler (rusted), CV/Axles, cracked Radiator which overheated the engine and resulted in new head gasket. Car at 226K right now. If I get another 75K out of it, I will be VERY happy. Frankly my biggest complaint is it seem like they go through axles like crazy (cracked boots).
I will defer to the Lemons folks as to their reliability when raced hard. I can believe the comments about stock cooling.

PS: Thanks for the comments. I am not going to over-think the oil for the Fit. If anyone is curious about the L series engines, you can read this...
http://asia.vtec.net/Series/FitJazz/lseries/Article is a bit dated (circa 2005) but it gets to the main design goals of the series. The head design is interesting.
