Seems I have all sorts of stuff going on w/ this e30. Just trying to get it ready for the spring driving season. Anyway, the factory radio was sounding VERY bad in this car, so I decided I'd put in pioneer unit I had bought for the bullitt. After a few nights of searching the interweb for wiring info, I got the wire harness connected and it sounds just as bad as the factory radio. Is there an amp in these cars? If so, where is it? And I though this was just going to be an easy fix...

amp is in the trunk, left hand side, vertically under the carpet trunk liner.

Those systems are wired very differently than your average system, I recall that I found it impossible to rig up an aftermarket head unit without running all new speaker wires to non-BMW speakers.

There may be another way, I just never had the patience/skillz to figure it out.

Did you get your heli yet?

That makes sense. So, do you have a used amp? I'd really like to keep the stock radio in this car.
