I would like to pull the golf. just to see where we are at. should be about 115, good torque at 130. punchy little thing, just slow turning.hp is good, torque is better. maybe the wrx, or is it awd dyno. i get my car out of the body shop(long story) next fri, if not maybe sooner.

Dustin? You're up at bat sir...

Thanks for seeding the discussion Rodney. I'll create another post with date options soon...

Did anything ever happen with this? I could use 4-5 pulls or about an hour of time for myself. Also, I didn't see it elsewhere in the thread, what kind of dyno does CAM have?

Yeah, it does. There's more than one way to skin a cat and whatnot. Between the SAE correction factor, trying to minimize the number of variables is probably one of the most important factors in dyno bench racing; however, the most important one is arguing about max numbers over the internet. :v

For Alec I'd imagine he would prefer a dyno that could hold a RPM or load. A Dyno Jet can do it if CAM has a load cell for it.

I need to do some certification pulls for my log book as well.

am I hearing volunteers to put together a dyno day? I'd like to see what the mustang does.... I'm pretty much booked for all of Oct and we have the NCAC on Oct 4-5, TRSS on Oct 18-19, the road rally on Nov 1st, our last autox on Nov 16th and the last rallyx on Oct 26th. That leaves Nov 8th wide open =)

Maybe I cold run the vw,make sure she is putting out what she should put out.As long as it is not too expensive, gonna be moving into a apt soon.
In fuquay, going to school later at wake tech for diesel repair and other things.Diesel i think is where it is going to be at soon.

The vw is great fun,but with not much power...It really needs to be running as well as it can to be competitive. All the handling in the world wont help,if it is not running right.

Unless it's been on a dyno before it makes very little difference. SAE corrections can be calculated if the dyno doesn't have the standard day correction. If you want the highest reading possible find a Dynapack, if you want the standard of the industry find a Dynojet. if you want to read low find a Mustang. If your looking for load capability Dynapack and Mustang, or a new Dynojet. Whats the advantage of knowing what your instantaneous hp and torque accurately, approximates are all you'll be able to use when your driving anyway and you get that with any one of the dynos. So I still don't see the difference.... But do whatever floats your boat.....

I'm with Bernie, dyno numbers are only specifically relevant if your car has been on that same dyno before. I know of a Dynapack in Concord that reads uncharacteristically low, but it's still my favorite because it's so easy to do part-throttle tuning on a Dynapack.

I know three people locally with dyno's, and there's Jeff at CAM who's done dyno days for us before. I'm sure if we got a list of people and a date we could work something out with someone. Either that or we can get an hourly rate and split it if we only have a few people. I wouldn't mind seeing what the Duff car makes.

I think Andrew was being tongue in cheek. His flavor of humor doesn't work very well in text. However, Alec has an aftermarket ECU in his car. Being able to lock a RPM or load makes it a ton faster to get your spark/fuel dialed in for part throttle stuff which helps with throttle response. I'll eventually be in the same boat again when I get tired of having a reliable car.

Yeah, I was being goofy.

Ultimately, if you're not classing for NASA or are obsessed about bragging rights, it doesn't matter. Any of them are useful for A/B testing.

As I said earlier! If your doing it for a NASA classing use the Mustang. If bragging about HP is your bag use the Dynapack, it reads about 8% higher than Dynojet, Mustang about 10% lower than Dynojet.

Why not just pay the dyno operator to make it say whatever you want it to?

NASA caught on to that.

Either way, the only dyno that matters is whatever one they have at the track if they compliance check you. The eastern nationals have shown us that it's a total crap shoot what kind of numbers it'll spit out.

Heard there were large variations between pulls on the same car at RA
