Just began stripping some interior parts out of the GTi yesterday.. everything was going well, until I found this;

I didn't think the rust itself to be all too bad (bad enough though), but take a look at the strut tower itself.

The good side:

The "other" side:

Note how the tower has buckled around the rear part of the rollbar, and has cracked on the seam where it meets the floor. Beautiful isn't it? :evil: Opinions are welcome, but I believe it's the end of the road for my GTi.

Heres a pic of the car for those who don't know it

:cry:

NOOOOOOOO, Say it ain't so...

I know how you feel about that car. Maybe you need to make friends with Sean Korb and get a little welding help.

I cracked the floor pan in the trunk of my car on South Course. The crack is where the upper support for the panhard bar meets the floor pan. I am going to fix it over a a buddies shop when we both have some time for it. Our solution is a big hammer, mig welder and a decent sized strip of 1/8" sheet metal. We are going to weld up the crack, then weld in the strip over the crack and hope it holds. :lol:

Adam:

don't panic, this happens to people to race Mustang's and Camaro's
all the time. Take the car to Chris Schemmel and pay him 3 to
4 hours shop time to make things well. YOu can save shop time
by grinding and cleaning the seams. Then buy a can a seam sealer
from Eastwood and paint over the repairs. These cars do need
both the upper and lower stress bars in the front and one in
the rear. I still have my A1 rear stress bar that you can have
just need to weld 4 tabs to mount it.

If you need help let me know I got a few free weekends
