Hey, I made a rhyme! :D

Anywhooo - I guess I gotta work on my wife's Subbie. The thing is leaking oil like a stuck pig (I figure valve covers, crank seal, oil pan) and there are probably several things I should service while I'm at it (timing belt, etc). So where does one find a service manual for these things? It seems there are bootleg CDs on ebay. Haynes covers up to 2006 - is that good enough for my 2007? Subaru wants you to pay a subscription for online manuals. The dealer seems to get around $300 for hard copies.

So whadda y'all using? :whoknows:

Maybe I should just get rid of it and buy another Ford.

I find directions for pretty much anything I want to work on via google. Sometimes with video.

Most common oil leaks are valve covers, oil separator cover plate (behind the flywheel) and oil pan, in that order. Also seals that are supposed to be replaced with timing belt, and either don't get replaced, or get torqued by a gorilla.

I haven't tried the Internet for Subaru instructions, because Pete bought the engine and transmission manuals when he got his car. I can recommend the manuals for technical completeness, but it would be hard to justify the price, especially since they have a separate manual for each section of the car. We had a small electrical issue and the engine and transmission manuals didn't help at all.

I did find that fix on the internet. (Naturally we didn't realize that the lights would not go off until it was dark. Seems that at the rallycross we hit the rocker switch on the top of the steering column that keeps the lights on when the ignition is off. With dust on the top of the column the little patch of red that indicates that the switch is on didn't show up well in the dark.)

For those interested, you can download the factory service manual (all 5000 pages) for about $10 from tradebit.com. Seems like you can get just about any manual there.
