I have a oil leak problem on my 1994 Civic Si (D16Z6), from the distributor of all places...
Here's roughly how this has gone over the last couple of years: OEM distributor quit (typical failure of ignitor). Bought an aftermarket distributor which worked fine for a long time, but then it started leaking oil. I got a junkyard distributor from Jeremy, and it also started leaking. I took it apart and put a new shaft seal in it, and it still leaked. I dug out the old OEM distributor, put a new shaft seal into it, and then transfered all the electrical bits from the junkyard distributor into the OEM housing. That leaks too.
Three different (used) distributors showing the same problem. Makes me think that something else might be causing this, but I cannot dream up a scenario to explain it. Something in the head assembled wrong, or missing a baffle or something that is putting too much oil onto the distributor? Something misaligned? Or the simple answer: worn dist. shafts that won't seal?
Anybody have any comments, ideas, or suggestions?
I am about ready to give up and buy a new distributor (painful as that will be...) but it would be profoundly irritating (to say the least) if the new one leaks too...
Thanks, Eric
