Friend of mine at work told me his door handle on his 2004 Altima broke. This is a flush mount color keyed door handle that's plastic and the outer part of the handle broke. It's a very clean break and it's the entire length of the handle. I think it's good candidate to just be glued back into place. I need a suggestion on what type of glue or epoxy to use on this.

I figure this is the cheapest route to try first considering it's paint matched and a replacement would require changing out the lock along w/ simply tearing into the door.

suggestions?

probably can't be glued very effectively, there's just not much surface area to bond the 2 pieces back together.

Seems to be a common problem on many Japanese cars of that vintage- my brother has a Camry with a broken handle just like the one you describe. I told him a year or so ago that I'd find him one during one of my Junkyard trips- but since then I've noticed that EVERY SINGLE driver door handle from any Camry I've seen in a junkyard is either broken, or already pulled.

Not sure about the Altima, but for the Camry, there are aftermarket handles that are a good bit cheaper than the dealer- not sure how good they are or how hard to replace though.

good camry or corolla door handles sell as soon as we get them here on the yard. very common problem. I dont think glueing it will hold for maybe 20 times or opening the door.

sooooo, can you keep an eye out for one please? This is the silvery/champagne color. I'll validate the year and color.

edit: 2003 / pewter

If Jeremy's out, check this:
http://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_nkw=200 ... m270.l1313

I wouldn't bother with glue. It'll just be a waste of time unless you can reinforce the area somehow.

actually I can. There is a boss on the rear end of the handle that well suited to having a small angle bracket attached between the remaining halves of the handle. Again, it would have to be glued in, no way to through bolt on the display side of the handle.

Rodney,

I love you man, and I'm a cheap mofo, but this idea is foolish if a new handle can be had for $50-60.

Try ebay, the link I posted above had a brand new Nissan handle that was pre-painted for ~$60 delivered. Might not be the right color, but it appears that the seller has many different color handles available.

So far so good…. Used an ABS based plastic weld and glued the handle back on. Been a few months so far and no issues. Prepped it w/ alcohol to clean the surface and then told him not to touch the handle for 24hrs. Still working, but now that I’ve posted this, it will probably break.

Cash's suggestion is too flashy. This is better:

How does that negate a functioning door handle?
