So my wife's accord has had its fair share of nicks and scrapes and scratches in it's short life. My wife is not one to put thought into where she parks or pulling out of our driveway gracefully or considering what placing her bag (has metal parts on it) on the hood or roof when she pulls her keys out will do etc etc etc.

Anyway, today I was giving it a full detail and before I dry it, I use this old school squeegy that is a rubber 'blade' held by a metal piece to get the bulk of the water off it. Anyway, one second I don't pay attention because my wife is taking down xmas lights and I'm making sure she is being thoughtful and I scratch the shit out of her hood. Like deep to the metal scratch on the front of the hood about 4" long. I feel pretty bad and I think it's time to bring her car in to have some of her other scratches (in addition to this doozy) touched up professionally.

Any recommendations and what's the going rate for some touch up and polishing?

You don't think a Dr Colorchip solution would work, even with multiple coats? I repaired a couple of deep (to the metal) rock chips with several coats, but not a deep long scratch. Good luck!

Atlantic Auto Exchange (Holland Hale & Chip Stabler) have someone over pretty regularly to touch up their inventory. I'm pretty sure if you called them, you could leave the car to be fixed the next time they have him over.

Their number is here: http://thscc.com/general/info/sponsors.html

Ouch.... that is a pretty good scratch. Maybe ask Karl his thoughts?

My wife is the same, and yet she wonders why she isn't allowed to drive my Mustang. :stick:

Wow, is that on the Crosstoad? All of it's beauty has been lost. You'll have to sell it now.

Seriously though, that does not look easily fixable. If you decide to get it repainted I would check with Johnson body shop in durham.

One thing is for sure, I threw that squeegee away and I'll be buying one of those one-piece Griots ones that are all rubber.

Performance automall has done body work on this car before and did a stellar job and they just did the collision work on the Civic and broke my hood prop clip.....so maybe I'll come in with the Accord and see if they ever ordered the new hood prop clip and drop a hint that I need touchup work done to the accord :). Since they are a USAA shop, the advisor kept asking me if I'd answer 10 out of 10 to USAA's follow up survey. I think I know a way :).

I never bought a Crosstour, its just the regular Accord.

I usually recommend Foster's on Capital & 540 and they know me by now and even resprayed my door trim on the house for a little bit of referral business I sent them.

They've done work to three different cars and although they usually never have it ready by the time they estimate (Hawkins was the same way), the work has been good.

Collision work on the Civic? :( Sorry to hear about that. I think touching up that metallic will be very hard.

Yeah, when that styrafoam smashed my front grill and condensor/radiator a few weeks ago. Minimal body work. But good nonetheless. Laura's Accord got hit-and-run by a bus at her job and Performance did the body work and while they had access to OEM albaster silver metallic paint from the Acura parts counter, they blended it themselves and it turned out impeccable.

Just looked at my receipt on the Civic, it was $282 to respray/finish the whole front bumper on the Civic. A flat-ish hood has to be easier. If they'd do it for $300 plus touch up a few of the other places, I'd be pretty happy.

That's a bargain.

My thoughts exactly. I "know a guy" and it still cost me $300 to get my new GT500 rear spoiler painted. Granted it was two colors since it has stripes, but still not a ton of work for an experienced professional.

I have an appt at Performance this afternoon.

That price could have been a negotiated rate between Performance and USAA since it was on an insurance claim....kind of like going to a in network doctor or something, but we'll see what they quote me. Same body guys fix nicks and scratches from snotty Porsche and BMW drivers all day long :) but they seem to put the same quality in my beater Hondas at a good price so I'm going to give it a try.

Ah...forgot about the "airborne styrofoam" incident. $300 = bargain. Good luck!
