I have been using a computer that Dan Durusky built for several years and it died. I was having problems with it cutting off at strange times and not wanting to turn back on. My dad suggested I try replacing the power supply and that seemed to fix things till now. It just shut off the other day and now won't turn on.

Any suggestions? I did use the same spec power supply that was previously in the computer.

look for blown caps on the mainboard and make sure the connectors from the power and reset buttons are properly seated

I'd check the RAM. You should be able to boot off off just one stick, I'd try them one at a time and see if you have any luck. It's always the first thing I try.

I have, quite literally, a closet full of unused computer parts. Boards, RAM, processors, hard drives, cd drives, various PCI cards, video cards, even a few cases. I'm not using any of them right now so I'd be willing to part with them for cheap (below market value). Let me know if you're interested / need anything specific, and I can see exactly what I have.

I did not see anything that looked burnt the first time I took it apart but I will look again.

Are the RAM the black boxes near the front of the case? .

No... It looks something like this....

should be in sets of 2 or 4. Don't know how yours is set up, but there should be some small flip tabs at the edges of the memory. Flip those out and the memory will pop out. Just push the memory back down to reseat and flip arms will reset. The memory sticks are on the mother board itself.

Walk around on carpet, dragging your feet with socks on for a while before doing any service on your computer though.

Well, it appears to have been a connection issue. Removing the ram made no difference so I started checking all the plugs from the power supply. Pressed on the big one going to the main board and shazam. Thanks for the help.

Now I'm getting a blue screen at start up. Error 0xc000026c. I tried restart to a previous setting that worked with no luck.

maybe the hard drive is going bad, that error, i believe, is usually a system file damage/corruption. Also, overheating can cause unexpected shutdowns/crashes and unresponsiveness.

Take it to Intrex and have them do a $50 diagnostic.
