Are there other applications relevant to any of you for the 17 X 8 wheels from mid 90's through 2004 Mustangs? 5 lug 4.5 inch (114.3 mm) bolt spacing as I recall. I don't remember the offset or backside spacing for sure. Probably about 30 mm offset and 5.75 or so backside spacing

I MAY have a like new set of original Premium GT (Bullitt style) wheels available this Fall unless they somehow will work for winter tires on a 2012 Mustang GT with standard GT brakes.

Dick

I do know the S197 offset is almost in FWD territory. My '07 Mustang 17" Bullitt wheels I have will actually fit my '07 Fusion just fine.

Good to hear. :D

I may have trouble "visualizing" those cars on slightly updated versions of 1960's style American muscle car wheels.

Certainly should never break them from weight or torque.

That's the same bolt pattern for the 240sx, most of the 5 lug Nissan cars, Mitsubishi eclispe and the Mazda Rx7/8/

If they fit over the 12" brakes of the new Mustang, they are going to stick out.

Jason,

My recollection is that the older wheels actually have more backside spacing than the new wheels but it has been awhile since I looked into this. If they do they will be "in" too far instead of "out" further. Plus, as you say, the brake clearance question. All TBD if/when I get the 5.0 if I don't use the wheels to sweeten the deal on a private sale of the 2001.

Thanks,

I'm pretty sure Jason is right. The older SN95 wheels will have less offset causing them to protrude out past the fenders of the newer Mustangs.

Thanks for the pics Ryan!

Looks like I won't have any problem finding a "market" for the wheels if I need to do so. Now all I need it a market for the whole car rather than the dealer. Shouldn't be too hard given low mileage (91K), one "mature (in years)" owner, and totally stock. :)

The wheels sticking out further, if they clear the 5.0's brakes, might not be an issue with narrower winter tires.

Thanks guys!

I'm not sure. I tried using google, and it looks like the offsets for the factory wheels are closer than I previously thought. I can check my offset tonight and you can compare to yours if you want.

If you really want to run the 17" wheels, I will trade caliper brackets with you, and you can run the 11" rotors instead of the 12" rotors. :)

OK. Here are some official Ford numbers from my shop manual and from various Ford Racing catalogs.

2001, etc. 17X8 wheels: 30 mm offset, 5.72 inch backside spacing

2005 -09 (at least) 17X8 wheels: 45 mm offset, 6.295 backside spacing

2005 plus 18X8.5 wheels: 50 mm offset, 6.82 backside spacing (note .5 inch wider wheel plus more offset increases backside spacing)

2012 18X8 wheels (stock 2012 5.0 18's are 8 inch wide): No specs available.

I doubt that I will use the 17's for winter tires but it was "fun" doing the research.

Also, Kelly may want them for her 97 GT which currently has 16's (17's were an option in 97).

Okay, so the older rims will only stick out farthur by 15mm. Not really much of a difference, in terms of looks. I don't think the factory 17x8 wheels on the s197 went all the way to the fender edge anyway.

The big issues will be brake clearance, impact of the wider track on handling, and tpm sensors.

Thanks!
