drilling holes in the floor and dropping the cage through to weld the top works very well. after you finish all the welds the base plates slide under the bars. its common practice and i see no structural problem.

what tubing bender did you get and how do you like it? i've been looking at a couple but haven't decided which one to get.

I see no structural problems either, but I wanted to do the raised plinths to tie in better to the rockers and back walls. I guess we could have done a double-plate, but I think pushing it forward off the boxes will overall be easier... maybe

http://tubetek.net/ - For the money it seems to be great. I went with the air over hydraulic option so I wouldn't have to solidly mount it. Admittedly I've only done 4 bends so far, but so far so good.

Google the name and the builder (Cliff), it's got a good reputation. Dies I believe are compatible with JD2.

You know, we might be willing to rent it out if that would interest you. Right now I think 5 of us co-own the thing... haven't settled on finances yet. With the die upgrade to 1.75" and degree wheel it was like $460 delivered.

Sean,

I've got a JDSquared bender I'd be willing to loan/rent, depending on how long you needed it.

I've used it to make 2 full cages and bend some misc add-on pieces and it works great.

I have been considering buying a JD2 when it comes time for my own cage. Thanks for the tip on the Tubetek!

Money can't buy happiness, but somehow it's more comfortable to cry in a Porsche than a Kia.
