does seafoam+rotary=death? If not, would that not help the carbon buildup on the apex seals?

A few folks have reported 'seat of the pants' power improvement from mixing Seafoam into a full tank of gas, but there's not enough info out there at this point to convince me to try that, especially with an engine that's still under warranty. Mazda has a cleaner called "Zoom" that's specifically designed to de-carbon apex seals - with the engine hot you squirt a bunch of Zoom directly into each rotor chamber while turning the starter then let it sit for 1+ hours. Then grab a gas mask and start the car to burn it off - the exhaust smoke is reported to be unreal - both smell and quantity.

We did the Seaform thing on our Lemons Prelude and I can tell you no mosquitoes were left in my neighborhood afterwards.

Yeah, seafoam fed in through a vacuum line in the intake manifold yields a huge smoke show. Sounds pretty similar to the zoom product you are talking about.

The engine is under warranty???? Well then. Do the sea foam! In the intake and the gas tank. Probably better not to do it in both at the same time. Change the oil soon after you do it.

This guy found a solution to his rotary issue.

*disclaimer, I REALLY waited as long as I could for that!

Looks like a great solution. Not sure it's STX class legal, though. Think anyone would notice?

Unfortunately, to take advantage of the engine warranty, a Mazda service dept. must first go through a series of specific tests and procedures as outlined in a Mazda Service Bulletin (all at the car owner's expense, of course), and that list includes the engine cleaning procedure using Mazda's Zoom cleaner.

I'll allow that if you'll allow me to substitute my STi for my WRX.

Following up on my RX-8 power issue, I had Capital Mazda complete the remaining items on the applicable Mazda Service Bulletin, including the engine cleaning / de-carb process, and the engine feels noticeably stronger now. Don't have any new/real dyno data to support that yet, just waiting for another dyno opportunity - will post updated dyno data when it happens.

Any thoughts on what they did that might've fixed it?

Other than a series of checks/tests, the only thing they did was the de-carbonization process, so I have to assume that made the difference.

Based on how my plugs looked after 20k miles, I can only imagine the buildup of carbon at almost 100k miles.
