Ander’s SAAB flunked inspection because he had a modified exhaust system. Were the guys at Oil Change USA being real jerks or are they correct? If they are correct, then how does ¾ of our club get their cars inspected? I was thinking that these guys make up the rules as they go. They would not show me anything that says that modified exhausts are illegal. I went to the DMV web site and could not find any criteria on what they look for at inspections. The car is quieter than a stock MS3. We replaced one of the two mufflers with a straight pipe so that Anders cold actually hear that he had an engine. Nothing was done to emissions equipment. If someone knows of an inspection station in the Raleigh area that’s not going out of their way to flunk the customer, please PM me.

Gary Gordon Auto Services
960 Kildaire Farm Road
Cary, NC 27511-3923
(919) 467-0633

They are tucked around the right side of the K-Mart there,

I had trouble with getting the rally Focus to clear some CEL codes (finally ended up getting a new tune file from some guy in Texas just for the inspection). Gary was racer friendly, didn't seem to hear my exhaust, and even loaned me an OBD code reader for the few weeks I needed to sort it all out.

I've not heard of exhaust failures unless the cat's been removed, or the system is rusted out. My E30 has dual cherry bombs on the back and passes without problems at the QuickLube on Duraleigh just south/west of Glenwood Ave. Maybe they thought the muffler you removed was the catalytic converter? :whoknows:

The guys probably didn't pass his car out of laziness. Bonus points if it's a car made before 1996 because they don't even check the exhaust with a sniffer.

They don't have to do the sniff test on pre 1996 cars anymore. It is safety and visual inspection of the exhaust system only.

I'm usually in and out of the Quail Corners Shell in about 10 minutes with my Miata.

Just don't go to the place across from the Mellow Mushroom. They're quick but they are also quick to sell you wiper blades even when you don't really need them along with additives for you engine and fuel.

Good luck.

They are horrible. I went their once and saw the same thing. They also wouldn't pass my chevelle because the the AC compressor was missing from the bracket. WTF! I left and went down the hill to the quick lube place on Peace street and never have a problem with them. Sometimes they don't even charge me for having tinted windows.

I thought this was just the standard. I cant think of a year that I havent heard "your lights are out" or "your windshild wiper blades are no good" in the past 5 years going to different places.

During my last inspection in Sanford the guy looked at the car twice. First to get the mileage and second to look at the mileage again because he didn't write it down the first time.

I've honestly always taken my cars to jiffy lube for inspections. They can't actually fix anything so they don't try and bs you and say you need 500 dollars worth of repairs to pass inspection.

I took the F250 to the Jiffy Lube at 751 and 54 in SW Durham after Just Inspections inexplicably failed its window tint (it's NOT dark). They didn't even check the tint. He did tell my my high mount brake light was burned out, which I didn't know, and offered to replace it for nine bucks. I declined. to which he responded, "do you promise to fix it?" I nodded. He passed it.

That reminds me. I need to replace that bulb.

Just Inspections on Chatam St. in Cary has always done right by me. One time I brought the 210 in and when the guy pulled it in I saw a brake light was out. The guy asked if I saw it and I said yes and I would fix it right away. The car passed.

When I was the inspector at Ever Ready Auto Glass I would replace bulbs and they only charged for the bulb. The bulbs were marked up about 100% but that was still $2 to $3 for common lamps.

Followup: Took the rally car to Gary Gordon this morning. No issues except that Gary sure likes to talk! Definitely racer friendly.

Be sure to mention THSCC and my name if you go.
