A while back I came across a thread on Miata.net discussing different tire widths in CSP and the consensus among the top drivers participating was that wider tires effectively equalled better treadlife without any improvement in overall grip. I know my Azenis that I ran last year wore primarily on the outer 3" to the point that late last season I swapped them to run inside-sidewall facing out. I'll probably still use them this year until they cord or the new Azenis are available.

What are your alignment specs? What suspension setup do you have? Our Azenis (on the Miata) were worn pretty much even, with a little more wear toward the inside.

I bought some wheels from Bowie Jr the other week. They came with some wore out 225/50/R14 Hoosiers. Out of curiosity, I tried to put them on last nite. Not gonna happen without 1/4" spacers! The inside edge on the rear was going to be hitting the edge of the upper shock well in the trunk. I didn't even bother to try fitting the fronts.

Out of curiosity, I ran some #'s. The 205/55's are about 11% wider than stock 185/55's. The 225/50's are about 22% wider than stock. The increase in tire diameter is less than a 195/60/14.

In my last miata, I could bark the tires in first and second with the stock 185/55's. When I put on 195/60 Azenis Sports, I could no longer bark 2nd. You could definitely tell there was a significant reduction in torque output. But the handling characteristics of the cost effective Azenis where worth the trade off.

Does anybody know the weight of Kuhmo V700 225/50/R14's and Victoracer 205/50/R14's?

Stated tires sizes are a good guideline, but not always correct.

There are many tires that run "wide" for thier sizes, and small as well.

Was running Miq Millman's alignment last season. I've backed off the camber a little this year in anticipation of the manual steering rack I still haven't swapped.
