The STi Group N bushings are a lot stiffer & less likely to fail, and are pretty cheap. You can get them from Southern States with a 20% THSCC discount. You might need to give them the part number, but I was able to get the guy to look up the Group N engine mounts in the "SPT catalog" last week.

The groupN aren't fluid filled either if I'm not mistaken.

I didn't know we get a 20% discount at Southern States Subaru.

According to the guys at Turbotime (first time I have called -- quite helpful on the phone, and right down the road from me) the STi mounts are fluid filled too. Mentioned that the newer 01+ style doesn't bolt right on and would need some modification.

They might have some used stockers sitting around, I'll probably go that route if they find something.

The stock STi control arm bushings (I'm referring to the whole thing, including the metal part) are just like yours, and they're all interchangeable, from 93-07. The Group N bushings are hard rubber, and contain no fluid; otherwise the same as the ones that came stock on your car. I like the guys at TurboTime, but sometimes...

Anyway, I might have some used stock STi bushings for you soon, as I plan to replace mine with the Group N bushings. Mine have about 116k miles on them, so it's time for the upgrade.

The TT folks were correct. The STI bushings are fluid filled.

STI bushings != GroupN bushings

:)

EDIT: I see, you mean about the 01+ being different.

I just decided to stop procrastinating and order the Group N control arm bushings for the STi from Southern States. They'll be in on Tuesday, and are going to be $43.61 each plus tax. He quoted me 70something before he asked my name.

If you want a pair of these, here are the part numbers:

ST2020055000
ST2020055010

and here's a link to all of the Group N part numbers:

http://www.subaru-sti.co.jp/e/GRN/parts/list.html

I highly recommend the engine mounts, transmission mount, shifter bushings, control arm bushings and strut top mounts. The rest of the bushings and mounts aren't that important unless they're worn out.

Is that the right side? I should have a spare.

The same happened to me, but on the left. it was ripped probably for 2 seasons of RallyX.

I finally swapped it out after i couldnt stop on the dirt

Let me look around and see if i can find a R side. if so you can have it free (its from a 2.5rs, im sure it'll fit).

here is the one I have.

i even did the stress test and could not find any rips.

Hey guys, thanks for the offers. The guys at Turbotime hooked me up with a pair of used STi mounts for the price of one new. Just got them on, gonna try them tomorrow.

The STi mounts may still have fluid in them but they definitely have a higher metal to squishy stuff ratio than the stockers.

And Kevin of course you were right they bolted right up no problem at all.

Let me just add a side comment...

As a recovering BMW enthusiast, I have really been appreciating working on the Subie (and the S2k) after ditching the 540... Just want to say, BMW, f*ck you. Subaru control arm = 2 bolts and 1 nut, 9 minutes to swap (including wire brushing the new one). BMW? Try a couple of hours and a lot of bloody knuckles.

BMW, I'm done. And you're right. It did not kill me but it did make me stronger. I'm sticking with Jap and American from now on.

PS - I'm in the market for a WRX wagon in need of some love ... if anyone spots something let me know. And the OBS 2.5 will be for sale!

Mike,

Does this mean that you no longer recommend that I buy a used BMW?

 Awesome.

And I have a 2002 WRX wagon that is already getting love, but I'm feeling like selling it and getting something better for rallyx, like an OBS or a 2.5RS. It's in great shape, and we might be able to work out some sort of trade, if you're not looking for a really cheap fixer-upper or something. Or want way more for the OBS than I want to pay.

You must have really lucked out on your LCA bushing. There are stories of those 17mm (or 19mm?) bolts not wanting to come out and then the welded nut on the inside of the chassis breaks and then you have to cut holes in the floor of your car to get to it so you can get the bolt out :). I'm glad you did not have that problem.

Just to clarify, I think all GC/GD mounts will bolt to any other chassis in the range, but I think there are slight caster differences between the GC and GD. Meaning regardless of which mounts and which car you have, you should have 2 of the same bushing (as you have now Mike).
