wow, am I glad I didn't run my last session. Just took off the front left pads and 2 things I've never seen before. First, the rubber accordion boot for the pistons is cooked and coming off in pieces. I've also bent the inside pad and it's shaped like a banana. There's less than an 1/8 of an inch of pad in the center. I'm SO glad I didn't make that last session!

So, how do you replace the rubber piston boots?

I did the same thing with my 88 5.0 at Mid Ohio. Mine also had a deep impression in the backing plate from the piston (single piston). As I recall the pads were Raybestos, not Ford (too long ago for PFC's or Carbotech's, etc. for those brakes).

The accordian boots are dust seals. The ones on my 2001 GT went away at a track event in early 2002. Have not been replaced. Car now has 80K miles and spent a couple of months driving on NJ, etc roads in the winter of 2003.

My (actually wife's) 98 Cobra ate them in about one session. I got tired of replacing them and left them that way untill we sold it in 2006. The Yellow FFR has the same brakes, but a lot less weight and air ducts. Haven't fried one yet. They are easy to replace.
Peace,
Don

I melted the boots in the 99 Cobra and the 01 Cobra. Never replaced either.

I have the same brakes as Kevin, complete with the same melted dust boots and I've never replaced mine either.

Rodney, I finally gave up replacing those boots on my old GS-R. They never lasted more than about half a day anyway, so I figured they weren't super important.
