Yeah, it's a 7.3. I had enough people tell me to find a 7.3 that I would never hear the end of it if I bought a 6.0. Even if it was never had an issue.

First, Suzhou isn't that bad when the rain falls and the breeze picks up. It takes at least a couple of hours for the snow to turn brown in December.

Second, you laugh now, but when I don't have to ask you for a pull home because I broke my BMW.... you'll agree that I'm brilliant. Just ask Jason 'there are no diesel pumps anywhere in NC' Tower  BTW anybody know of a good diesel station in Sanford?

Is that an inside joke, or have guys really had trouble finding diesel fuel? I have driven a TDI Jetta and a diesel Suburban for years, and have never had any trouble finding fuel.

BTW - nice F350! With the stacks - is it chipped or anything?

If yours and/or Marty's are automatics, make sure you service the transmissions as recommended. And be careful with the trans if the torque has been increased without any upgrades to the trans.

Sorry for the late post. We had trouble finding diesel fuel in the US1 area of Cary and the ones we found were out of fuel. We ended up fairly out of the way before we found one.

It's not chipped but it does have a Modzilla fuel boost. It's pretty impressive kicking in 100HP extra. Kind of afraid of what it does to the mileage. - It's equipped with exhaust gas and tranny temp gages, as well as boost. Hopefully that means it was monitored. It seems to shift and run well. I just towed a 44' enclosed gooseneck tonight and it seemed to like it.

Nice truck Colin! You're going in the direction I would if I were to upgrade my tow rig. 350 Crew Cab Dually w/7.3 turbod and a looong goose neck trailer. Planning on towing 2 cars huh?

Not be a party pooper, but make sure you go over the NCDMV rules so you don't have any unexpected surprises. A coworker of mine purchased/setup a rig for towing his antique Chuckwagon. For the next 2 weeks after getting it on the road, about all he said was “Dang! You sure can screw up buying a trailer.” He had bought too heavy requiring him to subject to Federal towing requirements (annual federal inspection and physical) & a CDL.

Here's a link to the DMV rules.

http://www.ncdot.org/dmv/vehicle_servic ... Manual.pdf

I believe the relevant stuff begins in Section 2, Chapter 3, pages 2 & 5.

Shouldn't be a problem unless you get to 26,001 lbs or more gross weight.

I guess this could be an issue if you have a big heavy tow vehicle and a big enclosed 2 car trailer with 2 cars in it.........but I'd do everything possible to make sure I stay below that threshold. Trust me, CDL stuff is a PITA.

Not to be a party pooper, but unless he bought a COMMERCIAL trailer with a fifth wheel hitch, he did not need to go commercial.

There's more misinformation out there on this one topic than just about any topic around. I'm guessing that's what he did, and that does suck.

But just so you guys know, there's no "weight" limit or anything like it that magically makes something commercial versus non. I know more about this issue than any one person should, but in THIS STATE, if it has a commercial title, then it's commercial. If you're using it for COMMERCIAL PURPOSES, then it's commercial. Otherwise? NO!!!

In fact, I own a Volvo semi. Bought it with a commercial title. Promptly converted it to a "house car" (the NC term for an RV) and drive it COMPLETELY LEGALLY with a Class A NON-CDL license. Now, to get the title conversion I had to pull the fifth wheel hitch and can not put the BIG fifth wheel hitch back. I can install an RV fifth (the smaller ones) and be legal, though. Or, what I've actually done, a gooseneck is legal. No CDL fees, inspections, medical card, or logbook required. No stopping at weigh stations, either.

Why do I mention this? Because it's proof that there's no magic weight limit...I'm way over 26k. That just means I need a Class A license, which in this state, you CAN get without getting a CDL (in some states you can't, but licensing issues are reciprocal). There's even a "motorsports" exclusion on bigger rigs now, too, that also helps those who are hauling race cars (though it still don't help if you have that big fifth wheel hitch...that hoses you).

Now, what you'd better not do is exceed the GVWR of your truck or trailer. That will get you in big time trouble no matter what license you have.

I also heard from a friend building a gooseneck into a camper with car-hauler deck on the back that you can get the trailer itself registered as an RV, and this saves you on licensing somehow.

I have not seen this documented anywhere, but when he built his own trailer from scratch and was getting it registered, he said he discussed it with the DMV.

Might be something to look into if you are planning to put sleeping space, a microwave, portable toilet, etc in that enclosed trailer. I'm not sure it's legit, but at least worth asking about.

BTW - nice trailer! :)
