Thanks for the lead Steve.

I found an interesting thread on what to look for when buying a F350.

I think I've found a lead on a decent 2002 dually. If this works out then I'm looking for a used single car enclosed. Anybody have suggestions on where to start that search?

Saw this on CL today, no idea if it's a good deal or not, but it appears to be truly "like new".....

dual 3500# axles are not strong enough for a 24' car hauler

Colin, i agree with Jason. With built in cabinets and 3/8 plywood walls and tools and car, your probably over the weight limit of the axels.

I agree with the axle comments. Thanks. Now I need a name of a good diesel mechanic in Car area who can inspect a F350 for me.

So we made the trip in one piece. Definitely not a bad tow from here to Sebring and back. Logged about 1500 miles for my first towing jaunt ;-)

Before we left I had the ramp holders removed since they are too low on a dropped trailer. Got rid of those steel ramps also. Replaced with some aluminum ramps from NT. That cut out 100lbs of dead weight and makes moving ramps around a breeze. The ramps weigh 20lbs total and fit in the back of the truck. I definitely recommend getting rid of the steel ones. With these and a 4" drop axle trailer the Vette will climb on to the trailer easily. No stacked up 2x10s and add-on ramp gizmos required.

The truck struggles a little accelerating from a standstill. Nothing horrible. Cruising is just fine. The trailer tracks very true and is easy to pull. The Tekonsha works great and with the boost at 1 had no problems braking.

I averaged about 14mpg towing. Assume about 5700lbs of load plus the truck. So maybe 12K-12.5K total.

It's nice not having to sit in a race seat for the drive, even a good one. It was also nice just throwing the car on the trailer at the end of the day. Although it didn't get me out of the track any sooner. We were still about the last ones to leave.

I'll make a separate post on Sebring. It was interesting and something worth doing at least once.

Thanks for all the feedback guys. It made getting this done a lot easier.

Nice Marty. We'll see if it's any worse. I don't know squat about diesels... I'm kinda crossing my fingers that I checked everything. That and the stacks are kinda' redneck.

Is it the 7.3? If so it's kind of hard to go wrong with that as long as it runs smooth and doesn't leak. Or at least that's what I was told.
