Well Michael, just like I don't need to put a ton of effort into making my strut housings look pretty, shiny and Koni yellow.....you don't need a clutch either :). I drove my Civic for a week without one :).

Well.... it takes 6K RPM in 2rd to make it up the hill to my house, and your Konis will work just as well covered in dirt :-)

Fair enough ;). No, the reason why I want the struts yellow is that the shocks are yellow in the rear. So if I were to sell them in the future, it might look odd to a potential buyer if there is black strut housings with a yellow insert and then fully yellow shocks for the rear. Plus like I said, I like dicking around in the garage so my wife can watch real housewives in peace. :)

Ps....you could have Maria push you up the hill in the mini :).

If you continue to get the dry fuzzy stuff when painting, try keeping the paint more wet as you apply it. Apply it heavier, not a far away "mist" or "fog" coat like the paint can instructions often recommend.

My spray-painting techniques changed dramatically after a friend with a body shop showed me how to do a real spray-gun paint job on a car.

Go slower, smoother, in broad strokes that are even and don't pause at the end of the line. Be closer to the part, applying the paint more heavily, so that each stroke blends into a uniformly wet surface as you go. Put it on as thick as you can without making it run.

(you might already be doing this, but thought it might be worth mentioning)

Hi Richard, thanks for the advice. Yes I was 'misting' it.....in 90+ degree outside weather.....in direct sunlight....dumb dumb dumb.

After sanding them smooth and cleaning again I intend to do the spraying in the garage (maybe tomorrow 80degF high!!!!) with much closer, slower, heavier spray patterns as you recommend.

James I thought I was anal, but I think you have me beat. How many coats of paint/primer, and how many rounds of sanding do you have on these struts now?

At least three more than are on my rally car. Apparently I caused the paint to have a dusty surface, but I thought that was caused by the matte paint.

Good advice. It's a bit of an art to apply spray paint heavy enough to get a nice gloss, but not so heavy that you get runs. Tubular parts are tough to get uniformly glossy. I find that a couple of misting coats applied 15 or so minutes before a heavier coat *seems* to make a difference as well--maybe promoting better adhesion. Plus, if you want more of a matte finish a final "misting" does a great job.

I'm not certain, but I think the paint on suspension components is to prevent rust, not look like the mirror finish on a show car. To each his own I guess.

You know you've carried "the bling" too far if VK is questioning it!

Of course, if you figured out a way to put LEDs on the struts so that they would shine through the rims at night, he might change his mind!

^^^^This is funny^^^^

You all know VK is now trying to figure out a way to do this to the LeMons Prelude, right?
