Advance Auto Parts and AutoZone has a set of big sockets that include this one for loan. - AB

Yes, you pay 49.95 for a 30, 32, 34, and 36 and you get it back when you return them at Advanced Auto.

I did not get the pimpy impact version. I got it at the store in cary. Call before you go to check availability. I still have it if you want to borrow it.

Edit: What's the price on the e30 front wheel bearing? The E36 bearings are still close to $100. I had to replace the right front for the second time just before I sold it. If RRT is still selling their lifetime wheel bearings I recommend you look in to them.

never heard of a rrt lifetime bearing. i got a replacement from turner, cost about $130 including the nut and dust cap. plus i got new studs so i wouldn't have to deal with removing the old ones on short notice. i'll yank them later and keep for spares.

Remove the studs befor you pull the hub. It's a thousand times easier. What kind of studs are in the hub now?

RRT used to sell a bearing that they custom built and said it would last forever. Go ahead and buy a socket from NT. You'll need it next year :) .

i'll call NT and see if they have one on hand. if the OD is too large i'll have to grind it down so a rental tool might not work anyway. might as well buy one, it's not like this is the last time i'll ever use it :)

i don't have a torch to heat it up and break the locktite so pulling the studs now isn't an option. no idea what kind they are (already installed when i bought it) but they look just like the ones that BW and turner sell, 75mm long.

If you used red loctite you'll never get them out when they're off the car unless you have a huge vice to put them in.

I have two hubs in the garage right now each with 4 studs. I had the same idea. "Oh, I'll pull them out later."

I used to break red loctite on Lotus hubs with a propane torch. Might be worth the relatively low investment.

Yes. The heat makes a big difference.

Advance also has 36mm sockets fairly cheap too. I had to buy one recently- I got the Gearwrench brand 36mm 12 pt 1/2 drive socket for $9 and it worked great. Very good quality IMHO. They have them behind the counter, not out on the floor.
