Sorry in advance if this is a stupid Q but I'm stuck. I want to put some V710's on my NB Miata stock wheels (16X6.5 with a 45 offset). Kumho's spec chart shows only one size for a rim width range of 6"-8", that being a 225/50R16. The stock tires on the Miata were P205/45R16. Can anyone advise if these will fit and give me proper clearances for the wheel well & suspension ? The car is still on stock springs (not lowered). I tried to measure the differences but didn't have much confidence in my technique and am seeking some expert advice before plunking down all of those hard earned dollars.

I would go with the 215/45/16 V710 if I was you. I think the 225/50/16 would be really tall for your car.

Thanks Keith. The spec sheet for that tire calls for a 7"- 8" rim width range. Is that critical ? My rim is 6.5 ".

You should be fine putting a 215 on an 6.5" rim, even with Kumhos stiff sidewall. - AB

Thank you Aaron, I just didn't want the bead to divorce itself from the rim on a hard sweeper or any other sharp turn manuever because of a sloppy fit. Also I did not want to go with the 50 series due to the significant diameter increase. I just didn't know how much play was available on the rim width specs published by the tire manufacturers.

There is a surprising amount of play, but with Kumhos and their stiff sidewall, they tend to be closer to the suggested rim widths than Hoosiers. Feinberg is running 275's on a 6" rim  That makes us running 285's on the 7.5" seem like child's play :) - AB

I thought about Jim's steamrollers when I pulled the trigger on 245's for my stock 7" rims although Kumho says otherwise. I may end up regretting it but I sure hope not. Jeb and his crew didn't seem to have too much trouble this morning getting them onto the rims, but then again, those guys are the pros!

Here's what Kumho recommends:
