Well, the plan was to replace it with the 6sp. But are there JDM gears that will fix the 5sp? And yeah, the thing is geared tall...it's very Porsche-like in that you can just drive around in 3rd gear and never feel like you really NEED to change. Lots of low end torque (for its weight, anyway) and plenty of revs available.

Thanks for the heads up on cooling, but we'll likely replace the entire cooling system before we track it anyway. Different hood, the works.

Thanks for the heads up on the clutch, Les. It's not slipping, but the release point seemed way too high. I also notice there seems to be a "wobble" I can feel through the pedal as it does engage. If it weren't for *that* I'd say you are likely on target, but with that I'm less sure. Hmmph.

And finally, yes, it'll be ITE.

that's right, i forgot you were planning on a trans swap. but short gears may be a better choice as the five speed box is lighter (i think), no mounting or shift linkage headaches, and unless you do a final drive swap sixth will be too tall for the track so it's effectively a five speed anyway.

there are 20+ separate cooling hoses so make sure you don't miss any, even the silly little ones will sideline you if they burst. the two that broke on me were a small one feeding the oil/water heat exchanger on the right side of the motor, and one of the hoses in the middle of the car tucked up high under an aluminum access panel (read: neither visible nor easy to access).

as for the clutch - when i bought my car i thought the clutch felt a little "soft" and was due for a replacement. but after a year of tracking the feel hadn't changed, i got used to it, and it never slipped under full throttle. so take that for what it's worth.

good luck with the build!

I may have found the downfall of my AmEx:

These guys have full engine services, too. Yikes. But that fully customized 5 speed might just be the ticket.

What is that gear box going to do to your gas mileage?

Congrats on the new car. I am a fan of mid-engine, Honda and Porsche. So I am jealous on multiple levels! :)

Money can't buy happiness, but somehow it's more comfortable to cry in a Porsche than a Kia.

Alright, picture hounds:

http://gallery.donniebarnes.com/main.php/v/misc/nsx/

Nothing too spectacular except the pimpy red seats!

Chuck, believe me, I have now seen about everything on the SoS website that might help me. Could end up making sense to go with a full drivetrain package from those guys that's dyno tested and tuned. We'll see.

As for what the gearbox will do for mileage, I've always been of the mindset that the proper gearing for your application will help mileage by keeping the engine in the revs that it is most efficient at. *shrug* So we'll have to figure that out...

Love those seats, need a mink coat to go with that and you have the start of a porn video.

FYI, with my Datsun 260Z the ONLY repeat offender water hose burst was a small one in the intake manifold water line. Of course it was hard to get to and was molded. Also hard to get the right one from dealers. I always wondered if the extremely high temperature (i.e. glass marble) "thermostat" I put in had anything to do with the bursting

stock cars came only with either black or linen seats. which is good for you, the dye job probably lowered the value of the car :)

i still have the original red hood off my car, you can have it if you want.

Here she is as of today:

Image

Phase one:

Strip most of what we don't need
Install Moton triple adjustable shocks (on the way)
Race wheels and BFG R1's
Cage
Brakes (same Stoptechs as on the RSX)

Then we'll take it to the track and see what it will do with the current powerplant in it. We will be working in parallel with this to get our engine and transmission in process. We'll work on the rest of the upgrades after that, but this is the current plan.

but with a little work they'd probably fit stephens's integra, the one with lots of front brake problems. and hey, if they do i have a set of ht-10s that fit the calipers. stephen likes hawk pads right?
