Todd, I have stores in Wilson and Greenville neirther of which is in a flea market. I have a fairly extensive amount of American pocket watch parts. Estimates are free and I will be happy to give you some history of the pieces you have.

I know this will come up, so I have to ask. What's your store name and phone numbers? And most importantly, any THSCC discounts! Maybe we need to have a "watch" meeting at the flying saucer so you can give us some history on the major brands and collectables.

Ditto what Rodney said. Especially the part about the Flying Saucer.

Seriously, I'll have to swing by after the holidays. I've got three that are good watches that could be carried but have various niggly problems. 1 other *might* be able to be brought back and one is a cheap pocket that belonged to my grandfather. It isn't saveable but I'm going to keep it just for the sentimental factor.

My business is The Watch Doctor. I have been located in the same spot for 17 years in Greenville and I opened a sattelite location in Wilson 3 years ago. I have two full time watchmakers, two full time jewelers, and a full time clock guy. We repair and restore all kinds of watches, clocks, and jewelry.

Estimates are free and mention THSCC and I will come up with a discount for the club.

I carry Seiko, Citizen, Bulova, Pulsar, Belair in the store and usually a dozen or so used Rolex or other high grade watches. If you need something specific or just want an opinion on something you've found, feel free to shoot me an email.

The Wilson store is located in the Brentwood Shoppes

Greenville Location

If you'd like to see me personally, call ahead and make an appt. Both stores are open M-F 9:30-6pm. We are open saturdays from 10-2 for the month of December.

Wes, which band is that? Some of the reason I don't wear my Rolex is the bracelet and I'd like to try one of those bands. I've got a GMT-Master II, which I know is 20mm. Anything else I need to know about what will and won't fit it?

It's a 20mm Maratac that I purchased from http://www.westcoastime.com/accessories.html Installation is easy, remove the spring bars that hold the band to the watch, remove band then reinstall. Then wrap the band around. It takes about five minutes, including searching for one of the spring bars on the floor after it takes flight.

Thanks, Wes. Ordered a two piece and a one piece to try. I think the one piece will bug me, but we'll see. Not the most streamlined ordering process, but the prices are good.

One piece FTW. Two piece sort of defeats the purpose—if a spring bar fails you don't drop the timepiece.

Yeah, that makes sense. I guess I just feel like the watch is kind of thick already so I worry the one piece might make it "too" thick. But I'm going to try the once piece first and just see how I like it. I'm sure you have to break it in a bit, too.

Definitely needs break in. Moving to a one-piece NATO makes my watch feel shorter. Since I normally wear it on a bund strap.

Got my bands today. Wow, that was fast. Anyway, the one piece does seem to work great. Anyone want a good deal on a 2 piece black 20mm?

So David, can you provide any cleaning tips for watches? I have a rolex I received as a graduation present back in 2000 and worn it just about every day since then. Needless to say, the band can use a good cleaning. Along w/ that, the rotating bezel is very hard to rotate. What do you suggest to both clean the band and free up the bezel?

Wear it in the shower a couple of times, and it softens up enough that you'll forget that it's there. Daddy like.

It actually didn't seem to need to break in at all. Loving it. Thanks for the recommendation!

Rodney, an old toothbrush and some jewelry cleaner works pretty well. The bezel really needs to be removed to be cleaned properly.

I offer a Rolex annual inspection service. It ranges from $25-$45. I clean the case and band, install new gaskets, and adjust the timing. It takes a day or two. I will also advise if any addtional repairs are needed.

Hey, I didn't know that's who you are. I'll bring my wife's citizens by soon. Probabably should get you to look at my Rolex, never been touched in the 12 years I have had it.
