If you haven't read this book, you must go now and buy it, and read it:

The Art of Racing In the Rain by Garth Stein

I just finished it last night... what an amazing read.

Like the descriptions say: heart wrenching, but ultimately uplifting, especially if you've ever gone through the loss of a beloved pet (but a dog especially)

That is funny that this comes up today. I was very, I guess touched for lack of a better word, when my 22 year old daughter who has moved to Wisconsin and is apparently a little home sick called last night to say she bought that book last night because she new I wanted to read so she decided she want to read it.

I think it'll give her a much deeper appreciation for your driving passion (just in case she didn't already understand.)

I read it and thought it was great too. He also did a book reading/interview at Quail Ridge a few months ago. He used to race a Spec Miata out in CA, so that is why the references to driving technique are there.

Recommend it highly

What kind of guy has never had a dog? Assuming you aren't allergic and are cat person instead.

I have two and wouldn't trade them for a brandy new Z06.

I'll trade them for a new Z06...

"I used to have a Z06, but I traded it for two big wiener dogs."

Trade one compensation mechanism for another.

I went into the dentist yesterday morning and my hygienist informed me that the entire office had read the book, based upon my recommendation last year. The women were excited to learn that Patrick Dempsey had bought the movie rights.

I started the book last October. I was reading the first chapter and look down to see Sara staring up at me with her big brown eyes. I swear she was talking to me through the first few chapters. I knew it was time.

Sara had traveled with me to three nationals championships in Topeka, to Ft Myers numerous times, countless Pros and National events and never missed a local event before her back legs gave out. She was there for my first HPDE in Rockingham and for my competition school with NASA.

It took me two months to pick up the book and finish it, after putting Sara down.

I have it sitting by the bed at home ready to read. I think I am about to loose a long time friend (he's 15) and I am not sure I can read the book at this time.

It is a great book about relationships and humanity. Having gone through custody battles, it brought back bad memories. By the end I had a sense of inner peace and completion.
Superficially it is a good book. At a deeper level it is outstanding.
