I’ve got two or three old computers, I mean OLD-like Windows 98, bumped up to XP, that we used in my office up to several years ago. They work, but are so slow and not enough memory to even run newer programs, etc. The monitors are the not flat screens. Never the less, I don’t think I should just toss them in the dumpster. Any ideas? Thanks.

Recycle them or donate them. Don't throw them in the dumpster as they have harmful metals. Raleigh has curbside pickup for these. Best Buy had a recycling day a month or so back. If you put them on cragslist for free, probably someone would take them.

Because I'm paranoid....

Before you recycle them, consider removing the hard drive and destroy it to your satisfaction. If you donate them, reformat the hard drives and reinstall the OS. Potential for ID theft or something similar does exist with donated PCs unless properly "cleaned up" prior to dropping them off.

Definitely recycle them, but either reformat or hit the Hard drive with a big hammer. It is a good way to work out frustration. :-)

Gwen,

If you'd like, you can donate one of your PCs (minus the hard drive) to me, as the PC I use for iRacing has a broken motherboard...

...just a thought

This sounds like “deal material”. I’ll give you one and you tell me what to do to the other and I’ll bring it home for Bernie to use for iRacing. I just assumed that the lack or RAM, I think all the slots are full, though I haven’t really looked, since as I said, they’ve been just stored for several years, would make them useless.

Also, just to be clear, “tossing them” was just figurative-I just hated to drive into downtown D-ville to leave them with Salvation Army. And, yes, I’ll pull the hard drive.

Thanks, guys.
