our white f250.. which many of you by now, are very familiar with..
is a 2wd truck, with the twin i beam front end.. it drives fine to me, it is big.. it is heavy.. it handles like it is big and heavy.. the difference is.. the chevy trucks have a a-arm front end. even on the 4wd trucks. the 4wd fords are solid axle front end. the 7.3l has two valves per cylinder.. the newer trucks are 4. the 7.3l has a intercooler in later models. which we are looking into in our rig, that and a locker that can be switched on and off.. :-)-
(if we got a locker, it could be used at sandblast, just run the locker in the sand. heck.. it works on construction equipment.. )
our rig though has a crazy long wheelbase.. that does help. but the trailer that we use in towing stuff, is quite heavy, also it is twin axle, if that helps.
the december 2008 issue of dieselpower magazine. has a build up of a triton 5.8l gas v8 ford motor. and a 7.3l DI turbo diesel v8 truck motor. after choice parts had been added on both motors. the diesel made much more power much lower down, on the rpm range.. the broad broad torque curve of a diesel, make them ideal for towing.. and ya know, highway speed is all our truck will do, but it will get 18 mpg towing and 20+ ish empty proven and tested by us.. what does a gas big block vortec get eh? less than that i would imagine, speed is not everything. there is reliability, fuel consumption, power curve, gearing, traction..
all play in to the bigger heavier diesel powered trucks favor.
just something to think about.
just my 2 pennies... also.. audi r10 tdi anyone? hmmmm?
