Welcome to the 2nd Annual High Country Challenge!!!!
October 3rd, 2009

What is this?
The High Country Challenge is a self-guided driving event through the heart of Americana. We provide the sponsor stops, you determine the route. An automotive adventure where you get to see beautiful sights, interesting locations, and great roads.

Where is it located?
The event this year will be centered in and around the beautiful mountains of western North Carolina.

Why should you participate?
Proceeds from the event are donated to a beneficiary each year. The NCNG Soldier and Airmen's Family Assistance Fund will once again be the recipient.

Who can play?
Anyone. We recognize one driver or one driver and one navigator as a team. Cars, trucks, motorcycles, scooters, bicycles are all welcome.

Cost?
$50 per vehicle; includes a light dinner at the last stop and all proceeds go to charity.

Prizes?
Grand Prize - All expenses paid (hotel room for one night and gas money for the day)
Additional prizes – Product and Service donations from Event and Route Sponsors

How does the event work?
The participants will visit as many of our route sponsor stops as they desire. At each stop, trip tickets are available that will be used to qualify for the drawings at the end of the event. The more locations you visit the more drawing entries you earn. Pretty simple. Beyond that....we're not going to tell you how to get to each location or when you have to be there. The number of route stops will be kept relatively low in order to provide you with the most flexibility to get out, relax and enjoy the countryside.

we got our wrx, from blacksburg virginia.. it was fun driving back.. i do hope that is a very good event.. it looks like alot of fun. maybe one day i can participate too.

the first week of NOV. i ma going to visit family in california. central california if anyone curious. they have a horse farm.. great stuff!
next week i will be in PA.. Father is going to Europe for business. FRANCE!
in the middle of october. so oct 3rd. other than it is a long drive, not a whole lot.. as far as i can see right now. that far out.. it is difficult to tell..
but i may be able to register. we will have to see. I will have my WRX most likely.. i also have a GPS, a garmin nuvi. So that i wont get lost. maybe i CAN make it.. will have to see when the date draws closer amigos.Does having a 1 year out of date, trucking atlas of us highways.. mean i have a unfair advantage? perhaps if i could go with someone.. maybe i could do it.
i dont have a whole lot of money.. so hotels would be tough. maybe a tent..
i dunno.. there are things i still have to work out logistically.I do have a old school-hood freind who lives up in statesville germantown area.

Todd's Country Store in Buffalo Cove, NC has agreed to return again this year as one of our route stops. This store has been in operation since 1924 and has retained many of its original furnishings from the time it served as the area post office from 1927 until the 1940s. Photographs of local families are displayed alongside dozens of old fashioned bottles, antique collectibles and books from the 1920's. Homemade sandwiches, coffee and glass-bottle Cokes draw lingering regulars with stories to tell.

Todd General Store in Todd, NC has also agreed to become a route stop for event. This store has been in business since 1914 and represents a time when life was simple and genuine. Meet the mountain folks and listen to talks of the railroad days when Todd was the largest town in both Watauga and Ashe Counties in the North Carolina mountains. They feature a deli, crafts, home-made jellies, ice cream, antiques, collectibles, music and tapes, rustic furnishings and local author books. how does one get there in the morning. we are accustomed to 8 am registration for rallycrosses. this 6-7 am business is a bit intese.if i can get a job b4 then.. or some way of acquiring income.. perhaps.. right now.. i am between jobs, making car payments and gas to get there, a little bit tight.
however.. i am going down to see my sister and her husband later in oct. my dad and mom are going to PARIS! My father is going on business, and my mom is tagging along. however, the event is certainly in my mind.. i am just up against some real tough logistical obstacles.. we will see.
