They already have branded the demonstrations and the folks who have asked "disruptive" questions at the scheduled town meetings on heath care as "un-american" Politics as usual.

No suprise it is being labeled as "un-american". As being an opponent of the war in Iraq, I was also recently labeled as "un-american" by those in the government as well. Sticks and stones and all of that.

Is the planned disruption of public meetings "un-american"? No, but as I said in my post above, in the new information age in which grassroots has a new found power, this is the result. A few people are able to create a significant buzz. Granted, they are being total jerks and it has nothing to do with getting "answers" and all about creating a media circus, but that is their right as Americans.

As long as we are all civil, not shouting or calling each other names, there is no need to lock this. 8)

However, this thread is way off track and I am quickly loosing faith that it will be anything more than a standard political thread (which is why I think that nearly 100% of political threads on forums are pointless)

You may be right, but one thing I've noticed is how many people are commenting on this kind of thing that "never" do that. No, I'm honestly not giving you folks a hard time...I actually believe you. What it says to me is that more and more people are starting to care enough to discuss these things, which I think is good. Particularly if it can remain civil...because then something good might come out of it.

I'd also bet that many folks that "never" comment on this kind of thing do so because they never cared to pay much attention to politics in the past other than the popular media and advertising and voted based on that (or didn't vote at all). Now people are starting to look into these issues much deeper, and it might result in better choices available at the polls the next time.

One can hope, anyway.

or maybe things have gone to the extreme ends of the political spectrum. our nation is more divided than it has been in 45 years or more. the number of angry people voicing there opinions is quite honestly astounding.

the recent national election was invigorated by this anger and i don't believe much of it has subsided. the white middle to upper middle class is furious. my parents act like the end of the world is upon us.

the endless dribble of the news channels do nothing but inflame people with little or no time or interest to pay attention to the issues.

grab a cup of coffee and a dose of Joe, Keith ad nauseam and off to work with your personal political agenda.

thing is ya'll, if the economy starts to turn around, much of this will go away. or at least we can all hope.

but why are we all so torn up? carrot on a stick get yanked away too soon? i think so.

back in the day a good old fashioned World War would solve these issues. it certainly helped the job market. supply and demand and all that. sadly those days are long gone. remember The Terminator?

we as Americans need to realize the rest of the world is tired of us trying to tell them how to act. we have way more social issues to deal with than the average religious dictatorship has. sure they just crush dissent, but would that be a bad thing for the law abiding citizens in Compton or Oakland or Baltimore?

who puts troops in their own cities you ask? a nation that has lost control of basic rights for all its citizens that's who. we need to be protected from ourselves.

absurd you ask? of course it is. but really, how far off am i here?

point taken. i'm angry. lots of people are angry.

why are we all angry? my theory is that most people felt recently that they were going to see their beliefs become the majority opinion. not me obviously, but i am more of an observer.

the previous administration was elected and presided in an evangelical manner so to speak. a large portion of the population felt as if finally they had an administration that thought and acted the way they do.

the midwest, the south, and a whole bunch of old people (late bloomers as i call them) saw salvation in our past President and his administration.

this is a well funded electorate here in case you haven't noticed Donnie. i kid, i'm sure you are aware of the stable financial position of middle America's evangelical population. many would say this is the groundwork upon which our nation was founded.

but, back to my point. why is everyone so angry? the recent election brought out of the woodwork all the damn heathens. those people that understood the white middle class wasn't really praying for them on Sunday. the have-nots one might say.

so now we have a power struggle going on as the populist President tries to bring about reform for those that helped him get elected. the powers that be want nothing of this and fight it solely on rhetoric.

money rules the world.

our country is crime ridden and kinda corrupt when you actually look at it. we just accept this as OP problems. as long as it doesn't cross our paths or affect our neighborhoods we don't really care.

the rest of the world sees this attitude as piss poor honestly.

we are a bunch of cowboys, yippe ki-aye.

so 45 years ago people started to realize how poorly our government was treating its population. things changed.

sadly i don't have much faith in the poorly educated youth of today doing much to change things short of a Mad Max type revolution.

and stopping crushing cars!!!!!!!

Have faith my friend. If you try to convince everyone that political threads are pointless, then they will become pointless. I think people are craving relevant information, and some people here are delivering.

As long as people post information with their opinions, this will remain an interesting and relevant conversation. Thanks to Dave for posting some good articles backing up his point.

You've used the adjective "white" three times in your last two posts to describe people that aren't happy. I can't help but think that you're trying to "go there".

of course i am Wes. think about it. which part of our society stands to lose the most? the establishment man....., it's the establishment. the uptight white man. Dude, the Beatles went there 40 years ago.
