Performance cars could soon have a system to almost infinitely tweak the suspension, throttle mapping, steering and ECU while on the move.

IFR, the company behind the two-seat Aspid sports car, says it is developing the technology and says a number of manufacturers are interested in using it on their high-performance models.

The system would do away with only having pre-programmed Sport and Comfort settings, instead allowing the driver to fine-tune every aspect of the car’s set-up on a touch screen. IFR says the system would give virtually an unlimited number of different settings.

Using a dial similar to that of an iPod, tiny amounts of roll can be created or removed in the suspension or the ECU can be tweaked to change the exact amount of power or torque to suit the conditions. Steering weight and throttle mapping would all be adjusted in the same way.

“Every person has different tastes and this would allow them to fully customise the car for the road or track days. It could remember your name and remember settings for different tracks, be it Oulton Park or Silverstone. We are talking an infinite number of perameters,” says IFR boss Ignacio Fernandez Rodriguez.

IFR has designed an electronically adjustable suspension that features electrovalves in the dampers to control pitch and roll.

The Spanish firm is also looking at a GPS system that can read the road and work out how best to set up the car before each corner.

The driver can also choose how much g-force they want in a bend and the car will tell them how fast to take each bend.
