I had the opportunity to talk to the officer driving the Vette. (Luckily not on the wrong end, I just saw him on the side of the hwy and stopped to ask a question) The officer got to drive the Vette because he was the one who confiscated it. He did say that he liked it much better than the CVick.

I am on the side of should have sold it and bought 2 somethings with it, whether they were CVs, Chargers, Impalas, Vespas, whatever. Certainly maintenance will be higher than the standard car and sending the officer to additional driver training to handle it begs the question of why. Officers are supposed to be trained at high speed driving anyway. At any speed that is attainable by the CV, should be safer in the Vette. If they are going faster, I wonder why......The CV should be able to hit 100+ and once you start a chase faster than that there is a debate over how safe that is on anything other than an interstate. I'd like to know how many chases are at that speed?

All in all the amount of money/savings is a very small % of the overall budget, but it makes good forum fodder

How many people have been dissuaded from using US-1 as their personal dragway because of this? How many speeders (and I'm not talking about the 10 over guys) have slowed down because of a Vette being out there. I'll bet that guys from horsepowerjunkies.com have changed their routine.

Just an alternate viewpoint ...

I don't know. Were there a lot of people doing it BECAUSE they could outrun the cops? Seems unlikely they stopped just because the police now have ONE car they probably can't outrun. *shrug*

I agree. Outrunning cops became old news a few days after Marconi made his more popular invention...

This a publicity stunt. Marketing for the Sheriff's office. There are a number of police departments around the country who have kept drug seizure cars. They use them for various campaigns, typically anti-drug campaigns. Seems like our sheriff just wants notoriety for his position or department. It's working
