Don't miss upgrading to FF 3.5. For some reason, it doesn't automatically (or at least didn't on the computers here) prompt for the upgrade. Perhaps this is because it shows some add-ons are incompatible, but after the upgrade it found compatible versions of all my add-ons, so that is kind of strange.

Anyway, it is a nice improvement over 3.0, and using TraceMonkey JavaScript engine results in some really sweet speed improvements. http://en-us.www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/features/#performance

Firefox is simply an awesome browser imo. Add-ons I've found useful are Adblock Plus, Firebug, All-in-One Gestures, Flashblock, IE Tab (allows FF to open up an IE tab within FF for web pages that will only work in IE (lame)), Stop Autoplay, ScrapBook, BetterPrivacy.

Thanks for the link.

More info:

Fix should be out soon as FF averages far less time for security fixes than IE/MSFT. In any event, as long as you're not using unknown websites, it's probably not much of an issue.

It already blew IE away processing java apps. Looking forward to more speed (as always).

Just tried Chrome for Mac. Seems to be faster than anything I have tried. May be worth a look. (Chromium v 3.0.196)

Very ironic post for me...

We've been hit at my store with some spyware virus and have been instructed to use Firefox (just downloaded 3.5 on all desktops) starting immediately until the 'antivirus disk' makes it down from our corporate office. One thing I like is that it carried over all the favorites, so that's a plus.

My computer fixing capabilities are very limited. It took several aggravating hours to reinstall XP on my home PC with the help of Dell tech support overseas and that's about the extent of my fix-it skills.

So, that being said, does a simple anti-virus disk have the capability to fix a sick computer?

^Short answer is no. Make sure to keep your windows update current, antivirus current, and run Adaware every now and then and that should handle about 95% of stuff. Also, if you have not done so, make sure you have the latest FF update. When I downloaded 3.5 a few days ago it did not download the newest patched version. So be sure click on help -> Check for Updates.

Reformating and reinstalling Windows is sometimes easier than trying to track down some obscure problems. Plus your computer should run a lot faster.

i'll just throw this out there, my company (and by that i mean "me") does small business IT services, feel free to give us (me) a call if you'd rather turn the IT bullsh-t to a team of professionals (me). we (i) do at three or four windows reinstalls a month, often more. it's called a nuke and pave :)

in fact i'm typing this from a client site as i'm about to kick off a N&P on a very sick laptop. just another day at the office...

Very nice! Should I just drop it by? It's a Dell desktop ~5 yrs. old and I've got all the original program disks.

Call you tomorrow Jason.
