Actually I would think that DSL may work as good or better than Cable for gaming.

Is there any way to know before switching? I had DSL for a short time years ago (before switching to Roadrunner), and it was a real pig back then.

I have Roadrunner standard service @ $44.95/mo., not sure of up/downstream rates.

BTW, call me clueless, but which "number" is important for on-line gaming w/heavy graphics? Upstream rate? Downstream rate? Both?

I believe graphics are all handled by the game installed on the system. The server tells your system to make an explosion at this coordinate, and the game makes it look pretty. But im sure this also depends largely on how the game was made. That being said, I would think the downstream numbers are what matter the most.. Unless the game is being hosted at your house.

Take the above as with a grain of salt as I play with network devices all day, not coding.

As far as test driving it, you will have to pay for the modem, but AT&T is not contract based. I think you will be surprised at what you get for the money now. Along time ago, cable was offering more bandwidth (but the cable line was shared and could get clogged up easily) DSL was offering more of a dedicated system, with no sharing of the line, BUT slower speeds (read slightly faster than a dialup modem, which is still available if you want the economy package) at the same price.

The point here is, they are both very similar in quality compared to how they were back in the day.

There is alot more to the pro's and con's but way to much to explain here. Feel free to find me at the meeting tonight if your there and I can dive further into it.

U-Verse is ATT's version of FIOS.

OK, I didn't know that, so thanks. However...the speeds you posted aren't any better than the TWC I've already got. The guy who was telling me about FiOS claimed the speeds were on the order of 30MB down.

There are higher Speeds available and I will say the 1mb up is a big improvement over the Time Warner 368 up on their 6mb connection I had before. Also the installer I dealt with was great and actually worked for at&t, also they have a 4 channel who house DVR if you get the dvr service. The down side is you must have a box on each tv, but at least they can all watch the movies from the main dvr box.
