When I was out there in the first hour, it seemed like half of the drivers were asshats, cutting people off, running people off the road, and generally acting like dumbasses.
After you've done Lemons a few times, you will learn how to pick out those people pretty quickly. Generally speaking, the heavy/bigger cars are the worst offenders. Crown Vics, Mercedes, 4-door sedans, etc. Once you figure them out it is easier to lay back and not let them pinch you in a corner. I always used the slower cars as blockers to get around those guys.

When I was out again in the fifth hour (four drivers on 1-hour shifts), it seemed a lot calmer, people were aware of the other cars around them, and I could concentrate on racing vice just keeping out of everyone's way.
So, was that just me getting used to it (I've only done solo events before that), or did people actually settle down a lot throughout the day?
In my experience you are about half right. Some calm down, some are different drivers in the same cars.
