I hate working the course at autox and I must tell you about it, often.

I think they need to let you kids run the big track instead of the short course. Looks like more room and more fun on the full CMP course.

It's a logistics and spectator issue. It would take over twice as long to retrieve dead cars in the T8 area, thus increasing the number of caution laps. Also the spectators and crew chiefs can't see anything back there.

Trust me, all of us drivers are just thankful they deleted the chicance from the front straight that was used in the 2008 race.

You know, I thought the same thing, until I did an event. The west course is AWESOME for Lemons. Room is overrated, all the fun is in trying to pass other cars.

I liked the short course for the cars that we were running. It night have been better if they had switched directions after day 1 though. My left front wheel bearing is about shot, while the right one is still in good shape.

I thought of that too, but luckily the car fixed that for us. Follwing a driver change, we would notice a puff of smoke after each exit of T14. After seeing Dieter blow-up my mind went straight to "Oh, no the headgasket". As it turned out, as the water sloshed reward under acceleration, it would push out the overflow and dump right onto the exhaust. Cold water + hot exhaust = steam = puff of smoke. :D As soon as the level was low enough during the session the mysterious puff of smoke would stop. :D 8)

dude, that's ain't a puff of smoke...that's our afterburners!!!!

Bret, where did you get the quick-connect fittings that worked with the store-bought cool shirts?

Here's the info I got from the guy who made the cooler (they made homemade coolshirts too, using the corresponding fitting and some tubing sewn onto a t-shirt).

PLCD160-04 female
PLCD220-04 Male

I just did a little checking and it looks like the Female fittings they used are bulkhead mount type- designed to be permanently installed in the car. We only used the spare cooler they made, I'm assuming the fittings were the same, but we had 2 different brands of shirt- Coolshirt and F.A.S.T, and they both worked fine.

Here's a very interesting link about these fittings:

Interesting. I've been wondering about the possibility of making my own FAST coolshirt supply system using a small pump, battery, and a Camelback for the cold water source (for non-racing applications, of course). Problem is Camelback bladders only have one tube. So in my ideal world I'd use that for the supply side and then pipe a return into the screw-on cap the bladder has. There appears to be just enough flat area on one of those to get some kind of small fitting on there.

Which had me wondering where I'd get those little quick disconnects to match the shirt. Now I know. Damn.

My idea includes having a small momentary on/off button so instead of running the thing the entire time you just give yourself shots, but I've also thought about a circuit to oscillate it some with a potentiometer to vary the frequency.

There are some pretty large capacity Camelbacks out there, so I think with varying the amount of flow you could get a reasonably large amount of cooling time out of one. Now I just need an inline pump of proper dimensions and voltage. Hmm.

IMO the bulkhead or fixed-type mount is the way to go. I used the hose and female couplings that came along with the cold therapy unit I started with. The female coupling was made into one unit. I added a bracket to the door bars and attached the coupling to it with screws. Here's a picture of it:

It worked well since the connection stayed in place and we didn't have any loose hoses in the car to have to fumble with.

You're doing it wrong :P :P

Out of curiosity, did you guys get parked for that, and if so for how long?

Well I didn't notice this until I saw the video but the car I hit was flying the Taiwanese flag. I think you get that for multiple visits to the Penalty Box. I pulled in and the judge asked me what happen.

Quote:
He spun out in front of me in 12 and I t-boned the hell out of him. I had nowhere to go

Judge told me, that he hadn't seen us there before and I told the truth so GTFO and change drivers would be our only penalty.

Now noticing the flag, I guess they knew that the fault was most likely with the 96 car.
