For Immediate Release:

I am happy to announce after much bribing and badgering, Team DoriftoDogs has added Sean O'Connell as crew chief for the LeMons South 2009 race. Walter and I have been recruiting him, and we're happy to add Sean's skills to the team. Sean's primary role will be spotter during the race. Since Sean hung out with us at the spring race, he's pretty well versed on the spectacle that is LeMons. We are extremely happy to have him aboard.

Here is the final update before testing this weekend at VIR. The car is DONE!

Here I’m using some 1” square tubing to make a mount for the gauge pod/control panel:

Here is Stephen and Ryan making a debris screen for the radiator. We used hardware cloth and attached it to back side of the front bumper with pop-rivets.

The final stage of the roll cage installation is to add the rear support legs to the main hoop. Here we have prepped the area for welding:

Image

Next we built another plinth since the area on the fender is not even close to being flat.

Image

Finally the rear legs get welded into place and the roll cage is done!

Next, a few final touches for driver comfort. Here I’ve made a baffle for the cool suit cooler and added a gasket. This should help minimize the leakage when the water/ice sloshes in the turns. The last pic is a bracket I added to make the cool shirt connection easier.

To help with driver communications, I made a bracket to allow the GMRS radio’s antenna to stick through the roof. Pretty much any land based radio works better with an antenna unobstructed by the car’s metal shell. Also I attached the PTT button to the e-brake handle for easy access by the drivers.

We have to have a video camera so I moved the mount from my Z-24 into RiZo. I also hard wired a power inverter to power the camera full time…no dead battery!

Finally a few exterior pics showing our added sponsor decals and some other vinyl to finish it off:
