I am actually working with them a bit on the software as well via email and chat.

There is some cool stuff coming besides what is posted on the Forums. One thing is the use of a WII remote for an accelerometer. They are Bluetooth and have a tri-axis unit built in.

We are also trying to get export of other system formats forn. GPX and DL1 work, but there is one we can not seem to get to work. I will keep everyone updated as they go.

There are some really good stuff on the software now. The GPS sampling is now 5hz, and the accelerometer reading is 20hz. The system can now read OBII data and log it with the lap times. There is a free video sync system with a dashboard overlay available.

I should have samples of it after CMP this month. I can also post sample data now if anyone wants to see it.

at the moment I have the internal one on my phone which samples at 1hz. Even at that rate the times seem to be with in .05 from the stop watch readings.

OK, a bit of an update on new features launching

1) Free video syncing with Racechrono2AVI
2) HTC pro series and Nokia Accelerometer sync
3) predictive best lap
4) Multimode Split times
5) 20 hz G force reading
6) New touch screen hot buttons
7) Import and export for almost all systems (except traqmate, but working on that and can take the cvs export)

I should have Screen shots of the display and video sync by Aug 30th.

ok, here are a few screen shots from some of the data at CMP:

and my first guage cluster that will overlay the video I have. I tried to make the gauges look like the ones in the car. It's pretty easy to make your own.

You did all that with RaceChrono and a HTC Touch phone?

The Data collection was done on a HTC phone for 99% of the laps. I have also tried a 5hz GPS system (borrowed Garmin Receiver). While the data points are smoother the result set is almost the same +-.1 seconds (guessing)

The Data analyst part of RC is pretty thorough and you can even see a real time playback comparing two different laps or drivers. The dash creation was done on a PC. It’s done by using the Racechorno2avi download (free).

There’s also the real-time feedback that shows your current time, comparison to best or optimal lap as a whole or by split. You can also see your real time speed, G force, bearing, track location, etc.

I haven’t even dived into the performance testing section of it.

Forgot the mention that all the screen shots are from the phone, so you don't really need a PC at the track.

and two the program can also read all OBDII data realtime with a OBDII reader like OBDIIKey. This can be used to display the data and will also log it all with the track data so you can see throttle %, brakes, Gear selection, RPM, etc.

too bad the FFRC doesn't have OBDI or OBDII.

I will also say that the realtime readout is one of the best I have seen, much better than the traqmate one. It's larger, has status colors (green for faster, red for slower). I have this mounter on the dash and I was able to read it with no issues. I can post pictures of the mount if anyone wants.

Thanks for all the info Marty. This seems like a real nice alternative to the $1K systems out there.

I am due for a new phone from Verizon. Looks like the best option from them is the Samsung Omnia with the Windows Mobile Professional 6.1. Since I do not want to pay Verizon for the GPS, I will pick up one of the Bluetooth GPS pucks for $35 and mount it in the car (center brake light location).

I figure for well under $100, I can have a data acquisition system.

This will be very beneficial for qualifying. For qualifying, you have a real good idea what you need to run to be upfront. Real time feedback would be awesome as opposed to finding out when the sheets come out. Seat of the pants is not a viable option :-)

Jim,
Which OBD system do you have in the car? I or II.
