Sorry to start yet another thread, but I needed to get noticed. I need about 3-4 more folks to volunteer for the street survival this weekend. I need 3-4 folks to help setup Friday evening. I'll need you on site no later than 4p. I also need 3-4 additional folks to help on Saturday to help rotate working the course so everyone doesn't burn out. With that I also need help for a special assignment.

We are going to have a tailgating element in the afternoon. Per Brian Marks, I need.....

>>>>>>>>>>>>
We're looking for at least two drivers to lead our Tailgate exercise
this coming Saturday at Street Survival. The exercise consists of two
lanes - one with the lead car and one with the student car. The idea is
to demonstrate how different following distances and even distractions
can cause a rear-end crash. The basic way to do this is to have the
lead car accelerate, the student follows behind but in the adjacent
lane, and then the lead car decides when to hit the brakes or slow down
and the student's job is to avoid a rear end collision (defined as when
the student car's front bumper is past the lead car's rear bumper if you
drew a line between them).

The successful Tailgate Exercise Lead Car Driver will have fun with the
students and try to throw them off kilter as much as possible. Things
like starting and then immediately hitting the brakes as soon as they
begin moving is a good way to toss in a real-world "gotcha" to show them
that they always need to be paying attention. Start with the basic
"accelerate, then brake" and then start throwing tricks at them when you
think they are used to it or able to anticipate what's coming.

We'll want you to rather aggressively accelerate to your desired speed
to leave plenty of braking margin in the designated area. Not to worry,
though, we have plenty of room. We'll do these exercises at low speeds
(5-10-15 mph) and then try them at progressively higher speeds
(25-30-35, maybe even higher if space permits). If you are leading a
car that has no ABS, you'll have fun watching them skid in your mirror.

You can also try things like letting up on the throttle suddenly, or, if
you have a manual transmission car, leaving the car in a low gear and
using engine braking to fool the student by suddenly letting off the
throttle and letting engine braking do the work for you.

Be creative - come up with your own way to keep it fresh and interesting.

Brian

PLEASE let me know if you can help!!!!

FYI I'm designing the courses. Here's a teaser. Should be fun, this is totally different than autocross setup :)

Anyone who comes out to setup can take a fun run on my 1978 CT90 pit bike :)
