oh hell. did you offer him $500 Kendt?

i must admit this. i had a roommate in college that had a orange whatever the hell those are (not a Shelby) and they are a blast to hurl about the country roads. he allowed me to borrow it to visit my parents a time or two. a kick-ass ride as memory serves me. i mean at night and driven with no regard for personal safety or property. :D

is it an Omni?

Yeah, Omni. I bought a new 85 GLH Turbo in late 84 as a daily beater/3rd car. It was a total POS in every way except it was faster than most cars on the road in 1984...just as quick as the 84 "cross-fire" C4 Vette. I think I paid about $9400 for it and sold it 2 years later for $6500. It was amazingly cheaply designed and manufactured. Scary actually.

exceedingly neutral handling as i remember. it is the only FWD car i can say i ever drove fast. was it a Mitsubishi product? this was a 1980 at best Chuck.

My first new car purchase was a 195 Dodge Omni GLH (non-turbo). I think it had 106HP, but coming from a tired old Celica it seemed fast to me. It had great grip but wasn't what I'd call neutral. Ended up having a couple of them and turned one into a rally car- they were definitely better on dirt.

I'll have to scan a few pix from those days sometime...

Ah, yeah, this was the Dodge Colt -- Mitsubishi is correct.. In 1984 they made a turbo model which was pretty quick (for the time period).

http://z.about.com/d/cars/1/7/d/n/1983_renault_r11.jpg

of the french cars. i think renault is at least interesting. i mean they made the worlds fastest minivan.

the omni is something.. that... i donot know much about.. other than it was quick, and poorly built.

I ended up wth the Renault/Renault attempt verison of this car as a rental in Nice. If you stood on the loud pedal long enough, it would eventually edge past 90 kph. On the other hand, it soaked up the potholes on back roads like nobody's business, and having a manual choke was fun.
