Like some folks, I was in the market for a mini trailer to haul tires and tools around, 'specially so my car doesnt get muddy on the inside from the rallyX's. i was going for the $150 trailer, but they didnt have any in so I went with the $200 one.

It came like this

It wasnt bad, I could actually fit 4 tires/wheels in the rear slot and strap them down and be good to go, but I had no place for my box or other random tools.

So on with the cutting and welding!

My friend Tony http://www.killercustoms.net has a shop he uses for all of his metal fabbing, great guy with great skills. Most of this metal was scrap so we had to find ways to make use of it (since I didnt want to pay for full price metal sheets/pipes). So I just payed him whatever he wanted to his scrap and threw him some $$ for the labor. It also helped that I was there to get things going faster.

My original plan was to put the tires in the back and put the box over the front area after welding some angles to the tongue bar thingy (haha).. but i was advised by some folks who haul trailers that the most weight (tires) further back would cause the trailer to sway more and so we opted for the opposite, we put the tires over the front and the box in the rear.

The box is still on the heavy side, jack, stand, other random tools and stuff.

The box may be a temporary one, but i dont know. its pretty secure (you cant just rip it up, but im always paranoid about security so im sure someone could literally use a pocket knife and cut it up. So i may upgrade, and the good thing is that there are a lot of stock hole locations for bolts, so that isnt a problem.

here is the finished product

All I need now is some eye bolts so I can also use straps, and some clevis pins for the tires (they dont really slide around, but i dont like them being all dangling around) I wasnt so sure on how many different tires sized i would be carrying, so i made room for bigger tires. Overall its great. Drove home with no probs.

Its a solid piece for toolin' around on a monday afternoon! and i dont know how, but the red spray paint ive had for almost a year was a pretty damn close match! And even with the tires on it, its still not-so-heavy enough for me to slide it around, but its not light. lol.

So this is trial and error for perhaps more to come.

I cant exactly say how much I spent. but I def. think it was worth the cutting and welding and laughing all in one day.

Nice. One option would have been to use aluminum instead of steel to make it lighter. Like this one:

That does look pretty cool. If you were to move the tirerack further back so that the tires are over the axle a little more, it would be easier to move around with the tires on it.

You still have enough room to mount a grill on it. 8)

i dig that alum. setup.

yeah, We made the legs of the tire rack bolt in style, So i could movie it back and forth. haha funny you mention a grill, I told Tony that i wanted to mount a grill, and he said "bring it on, we'll mount whatever, we'll use all 2000 lbs of capacity!" HAHA

there is a lot of space i can fill up. but i do take 2 spares with me, so i can easily mount them in the empty slot in the middle.

thanks for the tips fellas.
