Do the harbour freight trailers require tags?? I would figure they do. Anyone have any idea on how to get them titled?? Just drag it to dmv with the receipt??? class it as a home built unit.

Mine had a title with it. You will need to make sure there is a serial number on the trailer. Then yes, you take it to a highway patrol station and get a form filled out. Then, off to the DMV!

when you take it to get it titled + registered, make sure to ask about "permanent" trailer registration. Last time I got one, it was about $75, and it IS permanent- unless you lose the license plate. Saves some $$$ if you plan to keep the trailer for more than a couple of years.

I have a trailer plate on mine. It just so happens that the THSCC license plate frame covers up the stickers on it that have the date. I've also forgotten to update the registration in about three years. Oops.

I'll sell you my tire trailer for $250.00. I'll take a photo. I've used it to carry my 315 x 17's. I mounted two pickup truck side bed boxes over the tires and put the tires between the boxes.

If you don't want the boxes, I'll sell it for $175.00. I bought new tires for it last spring. I welded a stronger tongue on it years ago when I used it as a boat trailer.

That is almost a MUST do if you carry around big boy tires. Mine was VERY bent after a couple of years of toting 255/45/17 on 20 lb rims.

Also, I have been towing my tire trailer, sans tags, for about 8 years. No problems with the fuzz.

If you go this route, you will get a "certificate of origin" from Harbor Freight which you can then use to get the title/registration at DMV.

Option 2 -
You can also declare your trailer "home built" .... You get a form from DMV with a number on it. You then engrave/punch that number into your trailer in two places. Then drag the trailer to a SHP office and get an officer to verify that your trailer has the correct numbers on it. Then take the original form back to DMV and pay your money.

I know this sounds complicated, but its sometimes easier than dealing with HF.

Yes they do.
Harbor Freight should mail you the title within a couple week of purchase. Then take that to DMV and shell out $$$. Do consider the permanent tag. Once you it, it yours as long as you pay the annual property taxes (Different of course than tag fees.)

Funny thing, the bolt holes in the permanent tag are the same on every trailer you own or might ever own... like a car hauler or an autocross trailer
