I recruited Jim Feinberg to spend yesterday at the old-Toyota capital of the world, Toyz Unlimited, in Alamance county. With Jim's help, I was able to acquire all the parts I need to finish my current engine project.

It was a great time for me, mucking about a junkyard full of old Toyota's, and Jim claims it was better than cleaning his house...

The parts I needed were in one of the more remote locations of the yard (more like a forest), and the particular car we were working on was parked on an incline (nose down), so it was a nice challenge removing things that live *under* the engine. With pretty much no issues, we were able to remove the engine crossmember and the oil pan/pickup from the car, we also grabbed a few sets of motor mounts/brackets and a set of air filters for my dual Mikuni's. I even found the parts car for my next brake upgrade (Jim thinks that I'm crazy since the calipers are so heavy).

I really lucked out with the parts car (a '75 Celica) somehow it was perfect underneath, no one ever crushed the crossmember or oil pan with a misplaced floor jack. The parts are a good cleaning and paint job away from looking new. Almost every nut and bolt on that car was already loose for some reason (very odd), none of the stripped, and none of them snapped (even the little 10mm bolts holding on some heat shields). The junk yard gods were looking after us. Ironically, we didn't really need any of the bolts we were removing, so we would have saved time if a few had snapped.

I have also confirmed that I can run either 2 or 4 piston calipers with the next set of brakes (2 piston are standard, 4 are deluxe, but exceptionally heavy).

Scott

Actually I didn't. Quite a few first gens, but no 2nd gens. Pretty sparse on anything newer than about 1987-88.

I did see 2 but both were turbo models and looked to be picked fairly clean. I think Scott was just blinded by all the Celicas! :P

2's are too cool to end up in a place like that. If anyone stumbles upon a wreck one with ABS, let me know. The way I am burning through Hoosiers, an ABS conversion will pay for itself in 6 months.

Or you can buy Azenis, they are cheaper and harder to flatspot while providing good grip.

*ducks for cover* :P

I don't think that Jim P. would be competitive in Pro Solo on Azenis.
