I went against my better judgement and failed to download this when it came out for testing on my part. Now I've got a junk machine at the office that I was waiting on to install said software and it's no longer available for download.

Did anyone here happen to download it to play around with? And if so, could you send me a link to where I can get it from you, or see if we can meet up somewhere so I could get a disc?

I'm not to concerned especially since everything that I've seen and read is that it's just a glorified version of Vista. Hopefully I've read wrong, and it will be something that Vista is not.

TIA! :D

The biggest problem I have had with Vista (still using XP Pro here on all my office PCs) on my wife's and daughter's laptops was trying to do stuff I've always done in the past with no issue. For example, bring up a command prompt window and try to run ipconfig /release or /all, etc. You get this cryptic message that you need elevated access or something like that. It took a while to figure out you now have to go and find a command prompt icon, right click on it and select "run as administrator" in order to get the cmd window to allow you to what you need to do. Hence my complaints about it are along those lines...they've sort of turned it into a modern Volvo (i.e. Volvo thinks they know better than you do what you want and need).

Other issues I would have in the office are slightly slower speed (extremely processing critical applications running on three different PCs) along with incompatibilities with one application. There seems to be a number of niche but substantial business applications that have simply ignored Vista. Hence the reason MSFT extended XP Pro availability.

I think the analogy your looking for is "they've made it more like a Mac".

If so, it's in all the bad ways and none of the good. But then again, those of us who were *used* to Unix-like things but enjoy a truly good graphical UI on top of it have the best of both worlds with a Mac.

LOL ... don't get me wrong, if I could afford it, I'd probably have a mac ... but then again, I think there are probably just as many programs that aren't compatible with Mac as there are ones not compatible with Vista. In fact, I'd guess that more "current" programs will run on Vista before they'll run on a Mac without having a mirrored window OS

All I'm saying is, I've never experienced any of the issues most people "claim" to have had with Vista... nothing more

My take is that it was a good idea implemented via a bad UI.

Hopefully W7 fixes the UI issues and from what I have heard it does (or goes a long way in that direction). I am generally happy as a clam with XP and hope W7 is a good OS. I am planning on skipping Vista and going to W7 with my next PC.

Money can't buy happiness, but somehow it's more comfortable to cry in a Porsche than a Kia.

i never had any problems with vista, was running it for a year or two...switched to windows 7 and have been using it as my primary and love it. its a bit snappier than vista, the new task bar is pretty cool.

I am using a thinkpad t61 with C2D 2.4ghz, 2gb ram

Phhhttt... Unix, Macintosh, Windows... We should all be running VMS. Then computers would just stay running and there wouldn't be all this fuss.

The issues I had with Vista were software incompatability with Adobe Premiere and Adobe Encore for video editing and authoring DVDs. I solved this issue with a dual boot Vista / XP. When I need to work on video I boot into XP, but for most of what I do Vista is great. 8)

Really? REALLY? I had no idea!

Do I really HAVE to show respect? I mean must I?
