I recently took advantage of a web deal on Piloti's and my shoes arived today. This is the first time I've tried 'real' driving shoes. I ordered my regular size...size 10. I realize that driving shoes are supposed to be snug and once I get my foot into them they are comfortable, but it's not easy to get my foot in with regular socks on. My question is: should the shoe be snug enough to warrant having to wear a thin pair of sweat-wicking socks instead of 'regular' socks? And, by thin pair of sweat-wicking I mean the thin-as-dress-sock type.

I think if you can't put a regular athletic sock on, they are too small, race shoe or not. Personally, I don't see Piloti's as a "race shoe" in design though. They're too wide throughout the entire shoe and not stiff enough in the arch area, even though they are comfortable and have a flat sole.

For autocross and karting, I use the Adidas Tuscany (similar design to the Puma Speedcat, but much stiffer in the arch). For track, I would buy a fireproof version of a similar design, like G-Forces, OMP, etc. - AB
